Muhyiddin’s downfall due to his own actions, says Umno veteran
(The Sun Daily) – Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s suspension as deputy president of Umno is due to Muhyiddin’s own acts, not with the issues he had raised.
Shahrir was commenting on Umno Supreme Council’s decision to suspend Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s as deputy president of the party, during a Chinese new year celebration with Taman Iskandar residents here today.
The Johor Baru MP said Muhyiddin was not the first one suspended by the supreme council, many leaders had been experienced the suspension, including himself.
He said, Muhyiddin, known for always sticking to his own views, should have voiced up through the party channels, instead of consistently talking outside the party.
“It is his own acts which invited the problems,” he added.
Shahrir further explained that it was not so much on the issues he raised, but his approaches had made Umno difficult to move on as a team.
On whether the Supreme Council have the power to do so, Shahrir said that “we should not questioned the Supreme Council”, it has the jurisdiction to suspend party leaders, because the disputes could have been hauled to court and will take years to solve.
He further added that the Supreme Council is higher than the disciplinary board, the chief of the board was Muhyiddin himself.
He stressed that Umno members should not question the procedure.
“In the past many leaders when facing the same situation as the former DPM, they stepped down, or left the party, or took leave. By doing this, they left the party in a more honorable way,” Shahrir said.
Following Muhyiddin’s suspension, he said that there would be some impacts on Johor Umno, but he urged the division and branch leaders to look at the broader picture and put the party above the individual.
The Barisan Nasional Backbencher Club (BNBBC) chairman have confidence that the suspension will have no impacts on other components parties in BN.
He also support the ban on news portal The Malaysian Insider by The Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) .
“The agency banned it according to the stipulated procedures, and the media should know freedom has its limitations,” he said.
Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar , the chairman of Johor Umno liason Commettee, Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Johor Umno have to abide the decision. He said he was not in the Supreme Council meeting on Friday.
