Report: Dress rehearsal for swearing-in ceremony of new Kedah MB today
(MMO) – A purported dress rehearsal for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Kedah mentri besar will take place today at the Istana Anak Bukit, according to a report by Utusan Malaysia.
Quoting an anonymous source, the Malay daily said the dress rehearsal would take place today, which means that the actual swearing-ceremony for Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s replacement would likely take place tomorrow or Friday.
“Friday is a holiday in Kedah, so the swearing-in ceremony for the mentri besar’s post might be brought forward to Thursday.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at the Istana Negara. So there might be a decision on who will be the new Kedah mentri besar,” the source reportedly said.
Mukhriz’s removal as Kedah mentri besar will likely take place soon as his rivals now claim they have the minimum number of votes needed to prove he does not have the mandate to lead.
According to Kedah state executive councillor Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain, the two MCA assemblymen who were reported as saying Monday they were not supportive of the ouster have now changed their minds.
