Kedah Umno wants Mukhriz out
(Free Malaysia Today) – Umno Kedah is demanding Mukhriz Mahathir be removed as Menteri Besar and as the state’s Umno chief.
In a statement issued after a closed-door meeting, Kedah Umno deputy chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah accused Mukhriz of failing to administer the state government and unite the party as well as properly plan for the 14th General Election.
“We urge the Prime Minster to intervene and replace the Kedah MB and its Umno chairman.”
Ahmad also said Kedah Umno would support any decision made by Najib Razak, who is also the Umno president.
Among those who attended the meeting earlier today were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom, Baling lawmaker Azeez Rahim, the state’s Youth chief Shaiful Azizi Zainal Abidin and Puteri chief Norashimah Md Nowar.
Mukhriz is the youngest son of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, one of Najib’s fiercest critics who has repeatedly called for the latter to step down.
Last year, Mukhriz was pressured to pledge his support in public to his embattled president although he retaliated by saying there was no need for him to openly state his stand.
Also present was Mukhriz’s political secretary Azmi Daim and his Jerlun division deputy Ghazali Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, FMT’s calls to Mukhriz went unanswered.
