Amanah tiff unlikely to split PAS-PKR
Component parties in Pakatan Harapan have no choice but to accept this reality and work together
(Free Malaysia Today) – The route to power and common interests mean that PAS and PKR will be bound to each other, and all parties in the Opposition should accept this reality, says a former Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) professor.
Prof Dr Mohd Atory Hussain is of the view that any friction between PAS and PKR over newly-formed Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will not result in an outright split.
“Although not a part of Pakatan Harapan, the relationship between PAS and PKR is not entirely severed. I think it will not be a problem, and they (DAP and PKR) understand this,” he said.
Mohd Atory likened the PAS-PKR predicament to that of a divorced couple, who, in spite of the split, were still bound on matters such as ‘matrimonial property’.
“In every political cooperation, although bound by a common agreement, each party will still need to protect their respective interests,” he said.
Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin lecturer, Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah concurred and said that the cooperation among all Opposition parties in Malaysia is based on the knowledge that they are mutually-dependent in the goal to defeat Barisan National.
“The PAS-PKR relationship will not affect Pakatan Harapan. This is because the ultimate aim of Pakatan Harapan is to attain power, hence they have no choice except to work together,” said Tee.
