Delegate brands PAS Youth ‘cowards’ for failing to back Hadi against DAP attacks
(Malay Mail Online) – The top leadership of PAS Youth drew fire from one of its delegates for not shielding their party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang from DAP’s harsh criticism.
Calling them “cowards”, Federal Territories PAS delegate Mohd Ridzuan Ariffin castigated the wing leaders for their silence and alluded to them being not “a good Muslim son” when “his father is being humiliated”.
“In the series of defamatory remarks openly hurled towards the PAS president by DAP’s leadership, it was the Youth that failed to defend the president, while DAP continued to attack and insult him.
“This is not the character of a devout Youth, but that of cowards,” Mohd Ridzuan said in his speech, when debating the PAS Youth chief’s address.
He also warned PAS’ Pakatan Rakyat allies and political foes to stop disparaging Abdul Hadi.
“To friends of PR or enemies, PAS Youth will never allow for once, our president to be insulted or opposed. We will do whatever it takes to defend him,” he added.
DAP has been highly critical of the PAS leadership the past few months, especially on the Islamist party’s insistence on rolling out the controversial Shariah criminal laws in Kelantan, which the secular opposition party insists will infringe on the fundamental constitutional guarantees of Malaysians.
DAP and PKR then accused PAS and Abdul Hadi, in particular, of acting unilaterally despite having initially agreed to discuss the hudud issue further as part of their pact’s consensus-taking.
