PAS appoints Haron Din as spiritual leader

(Malay Mail Online) – Datuk Dr Haron Din has been appointed as the new PAS spiritual leader to replace the late Datuk Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

The PAS Syura Council decided the matter on Sunday, according to confirmation today by party deputy secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

“The Mursyidul Am (spiritual leader) has been chosen, Datuk Haron Din.

“Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yaakob is the new deputy spiritual advisor,” Takiyuddin told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby here.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali also confirmed the appointment in a posting on his Facebook page.

There were previously calls for PAS president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Hadi Awang to step down and to assume the post of PAS spiritual leader, following the party’s tradition.

Nik Aziz died from cancer on February 12. He had been PAS spiritual leader from 1991 until his death.
