Australian immigration arrest Sirul over Altantuya murder

(MMO) – Former police commando Sirul Azhar Omar has been detained by immigration officials in Queensland, Australia over his conviction for the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, ABC News reported today.

According to the Australian news outlet, Sirul was arrested in Brisbane after global law enforcement agency Interpol issued a red notice yesterday for the former commando who was sentenced to death here for the 2006 murder.

It is believed that he is still in the custody of Queensland immigration officials, but it is unclear if they are preparing to extradite him to Malaysia.

Sirul and former chief Inspector Azilah Hadri were charged with the murder of 28-year-old Altantuya in 2006 and convicted in 2009.
