Royal family and court pledge loyalty to Selangor Ruler
(The Star) – The Selangor royal family and members of the royal court said they stand behind Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in his wisdom to counter the strife that afflicted the state and affected the political leadership and sanctity of Islam.
In pledging their loyalty to the Ruler on the occasion of his 69th birthday, they said the Sultan had always reminded the people on the importance of preserving peace, racial unity and harmony and he had also set a good example by working hard in finding the best solution for the problems that were created.
Tengku Indera Setia Selangor Tengku Ahmad Shah, who led the pledge on behalf of the royal household and royal court, said: “The people of Selangor are, without doubt, thankful that Sultan Sharafuddin had succeeded in settling the political strife and upholding racial harmony in the state.”
Tengku Ahmad Shah said they were distressed with the recent strife in the state, adding the events leading to a new administration in the state had not gone down well with the royal household and court.
“All the royal elders, heirs, members of the Royal Council, the Orang-Orang Besar Istana and Orang-Orang Besar Daerah are saddened because the racial harmony as well as political and economic stability of our beloved state are exposed to threats from those whose self-interest rises above the interest of the people and state,” he said.
Tengku Ahmad Shah, one of the Sultan’s younger brothers, said the troublemakers had not paid heed to the negative after-effects to the state’s economic growth and people’s welfare.
He said there was hope that Sultan Sharafuddin’s advice and guidance would be valued and adhered to by the people of Selangor, for the state to continue enjoying peace and prosperity and remain the most developed in Malaysia.
Sultan Sharafuddin conferred awards on 102 people during the investiture ceremony to mark his birthday yesterday.
The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who heads the awards list, will receive the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat Dihormati (DK) at a date to be decided later.
