Anwar PM in 2018! (Epitaph II)

Umar Mukhtar

Why not? Anwar Ibrahim is a capable man. He is capable of doing anything to achieve his PM ambitions. Like going back to the Anwar of his UMNO days idolised by the racists for his racial posturings, if that is what it takes to ride the adulation wave. Remember when he was the Minister of Education? Remember the Penang temple incident? Racist idiots are still his natural base in spite of what you see now.

Of course Anwar had the privilege of recanting his racism on account of years spent in prison in contemplation. He is a changed man insist wishful thinkers and fellow-travelers alike. Well, let’s pray, for the sake of Malaysians, that it is true.  We do know, however, that who Anwar is depends largely on which platform he is standing on to be PM.

Remember when he just came out from jail, he said he was not a member of PKR! He was hoping against hope that UMNO members would embrace him upon his acquittal and remove the PM then. Membership in an opposition party would adversely affect his expected support. Alas, the warlords of Umno had changed and money, more than racism, was the determinant of popularity at the grassroots level. He was rebuffed. So he was a member of PKR by default. Otherwise, chances are, he would have been the same Anwar pre-Sungei Buloh

Anwar is capable. Remember his first function at Dong  Zhong? How he grimaced on stage at being pushed to write Chinese calligraphic characters on posters. He was probably thinking what would his former followers in UMNO think when they see this picture in the press the next day. Little do they know that his indiscretions may go beyond that.

Anwar is capable. Even though politics in Malaysia depends too much on money, Anwar will survive. He knows how to play on the insecurities of the tycoons. Hedging your bets is the name of the game. It was not surprising that PKR’s list of donors was headed by a Dr Mahathis’s’ buddy and many current privatisation favorites. His balls-trading arm goes far and wide. It will not be surprising if it has reached the grandmother of all overseas Chinese triads in Beijing. Grandson Anwar needs your help to be PM. Check the fax machines!

Anwar is capable. He blames BN and the state apparatus for all his failings. Even his delayed four-month party polls of around 50,000 card-carrying members nationwide. The Indonesians with 150 million voters on thousands of islands did it in less than a month for their presidential elections. And they are supposedly backwards and Anwar wish to govern Malaysia. Go figure.

Even his boys in PAS are parroting his mantra. The Special Branch has infiltrated PAS to break it up! The Anwarinas don’t really believe that but it makes good press. They are  committed, intelligent and progressive thinkers. Their mistake was to hide behind Islamists to pursue progressive goals. No sir, not in Malaysia! The priority here is the afterworld, ok?

It is good that they will have their own political party. One wonders though why don’t they just join PKR and resurrect the dead? Oh, because Anwar is there! Hmm.. Anwarinas staying clear of Anwar? They must know something we don’t! Malays say ‘cantik bukit’. Pretty from far but hideous when you get closer. No wonder all his close friends around him who have alternative vocations have left his so-called political struggles.

Anwar is definitely capable of all these. So don’t be surprised if he becomes our PM, and you rush for exit visas. But chances are he is capable of being PM of Maldives or Seychelles maybe by birthright or create his usual havoc in the counties that grant him asylum. For us Malaysians, it won’t be long till a fresh dawn. We will welcome the end of the drama, for the queen is dead.
