No compromise

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) which is rampaging parts of Syria and Iraq, has declared the establishment of the Caliphate, demanding loyalty from al Muslims worldwide and urging them to take part in their “Holy War.”

Four new terror outfits in Malaysia are actively recruiting fighters with the ultimate objective of establishing a Muslim Archipelago or the so-called “Super Islamic State” encompassing Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, southern Thailand and southern Philippines.

Malaysian police are hunting five individuals involved in terrorism activities, including a UM lecturer recruiting Malaysian youths and assisting them to serve the ISIL in Syria.

The counter-terrorism squad detained four senior members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during a recent raid in Klang Valley, confiscating large numbers of counterfeit passports and counterfeit rubber stamps of the Malaysian immigration department and foreign embassies here.

These are some of the hair-raising newspaper headlines during the past one week.

While ISIL and LTTE might appear distant foreign terror outfits, many think they have little to do with the country no matter how terrifying they might sound.

Not true! Both ISIL and LTTE are international organizations, and because they are international, their operations defy national boundaries and ethnic distinctions.

Other than these two outfits, there are also Muslim separatists from southern Thailand operating in northern part of Peninsular Malaysia while Sulu terrorists are lurking in the East Malaysian state of Sabah.

These people are likely to be your neighbors or friends, and even colleagues working with you under the same roof.

Sounds ghastly? But in reality terrorists could be all around us. While they look not much different from any ordinary Malaysians we see each day, amicable and approachable, but deep inside them are a fiercely burning fire of wrath and an uncompromising and absolutely “righteous” holy objective.

To these terrorists, their sacrifices are superiorly sanctified as they sacrifice their physical bodies for their holiest Almighty for a truly sacred cause. They will go all out to achieve their goals, even sacrificing their precious lives like the Japanese kamikaze pilots during World War II.

The most common tactics of these terrorists are launching of terror attacks, hostage-taking and dissemination of messages of hate to create wars and commotion. They can feign themselves as leftists or rightists. They might serve in religious or secular institutions.

In the face of such heinous enemies, we must keep our minds sober and alert at all times and assert our absolutely uncompromising stand in fighting terrorism.
