(NST) – Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim today denied rumours that he had resigned from his post this morning following many messages circulating regarding his alleged resignation last night.

He said the rumour was not true and pointed out that he had been engaged in a meeting with the Town and Country Planning Department the whole morning.

He urged the individual or individuals responsible to stop spreading rumours.

Late last night, an anonymous message quoting media sources stated that the Menteri would be seeking an audience with the Sultan of Selangor this morning at 9am to tender his resignation went viral via Watsapp and text messages.

Abdul Khalid’s former political secretary also Faekah Husin also denied the rumour early this morning.

“No, not true. It seems everybody that have taken commission from business punters are desperate.

“We shall continue to identify and fight them and their business gangs,” she said in a text message sent at 5.06am.

Despite their denial, the message sent reporters running to three palaces, Istana Kayangan and Istana Mestika in Shah Alam and Istana Alam Shah in Klang to standby for any possibilities.

About 20 reporters and photographers staked out all three palaces, waiting for any movement in and out of the palace.

At Istana Kayangan and Istana Alam Shah, palace guards who were confused at the crowd gathered outside the palace gate questioned reporters on why they were present.

The guard, who declined to be named said the security personnel would usually receive earlier notice if the Menteri Besar was going to meet the Sultan so that they could beef up security.

However, he confirmed that they had not received any notice about Abdul Khalid meeting the Sultan today and Sultan Sharafuddin was at Istana Mestika this morning.

At Istana Mestika, security outside the palace was tighter than usual.

Three police cars with 10 policemen were spotted guarding the palace.

All reporters left the three palaces after two hours of waiting in vain.

At about 10.45am this morning, a news alert, allegedly from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) claiming that Abdul Khalid has submitted his resignation letter to Sultan Sharafuddin started to be circulated, resulting in a frenzy of phone calls and text messages to confirm the news.

The alert also stated that the Sultan has given consent for state exco Iskandar Abdul Samad from Pas to replace Abdul Khalid and that he would be sworn in at 2pm today.

Bernama has since denied sending out the alert, stating that its name has been used by irresponsible quarters to spread false news.
