(MM) – DAP MP Seah Leong Peng has died from cancer, his family confirmed. He was 48.

The Teluk Intan MP died this morning at the University of Malaya Medical Centre, his daughter Seah Jai Xin said.

“My father passed away earlier today. He had cancer,” the 18-year-old told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.

Seah leaves behind a wife and three daughters.

“At Universiti Hospital. DAP MP Teluk Intan Seah Leong Peng passed away at 745am after prolonged illness. Lost good n loyal DAP leader. RIP,” DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang tweeted.

The Malay Mail Online understands Seah was suffering from advanced bladder cancer.

According to DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Seah was only diagnosed with cancer around two to three months ago, before the cancer quickly spread.
Seah was on medical leave and missed the party’s sitting on March, Loke said.
“The state leadership mourn and grief over Seah’s demise. He was a very dedicated comrade and won three terms as Pasir Bedemar assemblyman. Will miss him dearly,” Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming told The Malay Mail Online.
Seah was DAP’s assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar state seat in Perak between 1999 and 2013.
He was also the health, environment and human resource state executive councillor under the short-lived Pakatan Rakyat (PR) administration that ran Perak for a year after winning the state in the 2008 election.
“He helped the party set up branches in Terengganu and Kelantan after 1999 election when the party was in its lowest point,” Loke added.
This is the second death of a Member of Parliament since the death of Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh who was killed in car accident on April 17, 2014.
