Minister says DAP MP’s video satire hurtful
(Bernama) – Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok has come under fire for her recent video conveying Chinese New Year greetings, but which was instead, laced with political satire and innuendos.
While expressing regret over her action, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the video titled ‘Onderful Malaysia’ also featured a guest who mocked Lahad Datu folks on luring tourists to the country, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
“The feelings of the community in Sabah, especially Lahad Datu, is very deep (following the intrusion into Kampung Tanduo by terrorists from southern Philippines last year).
“I really hope action will be taken on this matter. Security of the country is very important,” he told reporters when met at the Chinese New Year open house organised by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) here today.
Mohd Shafie said that incident, which saw the killing of some members of the Malaysian security forces from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia by the terrorists, was not a matter to be belittled and joked about . In the 11.39-minute video uploaded on YouTube, one of the guests identified only as ‘Master Yan Yan’ also ridiculed the Lahad Datu incident when suggesting that Malaysians would get a bonus show of ‘kidnapping and open fire’ if they travelled to Sabah.
Meanwhile, despite the unrest in Egypt, Mohd Shafie said the safety of Mara-sponsored students is assured.
He said some of the Malaysian students in Egypt had returned home and were continuing their studies at local institutions of higher learning.
“In fact, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has advised us to find safe and suitable places for these students to continue their studies in other countries,” he added.
