Insulting Prophet Muhammad: authorities urged to take action

(Malaysian Digest) – Police and the Malaysian Commission of Multimedia and Communication (MCMC) are being urged to take stern action towards an individual who had insulted the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) through Facebook recently.

Umno Puchong secretary, Mohamad Yusof Mohamad Yasin was quoted by Malay daily Sinar Harian, as saying that the statement made was dangerous and will incur dissatisfaction amongst Muslims in the country.

He addded that this will make people angry therefore action has to be taken towards the irresponsible individual.

“The person calls himself Programmer Calvin Gani clearly insulted the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on his Facebook account. It is time for the police and MCMC to take stern action,” he said.

70 representatives from Umno Youth, Puteri Umno and Umno Puchong were present at the Kinrara police station to lodge the report.

Meanwhile, Umno Puchong committee member Mohd Said Midon said that this manner of insulting religion is becoming more rampant these days and is believed to be backed by a certain agenda.

He added that those with proper education should not make such remarks and should show respect towards the religions of others.

“Religious matters are not something to make fun of. It is a known fact that if such an incident occurs, action will be taken,” he said.

“Everyone in Malaysia must respect the religion of others. It is unacceptable for a Malaysian citizen to not understand how the law works here and the position of Islam in this country,” he added.
