Faekah: I am not quitting

(NST) – Embattled political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, Faekah Husin, yesterday resisted growing pressure for her to resign over alleged abuse of power.

Faekah said she would not quit despite intense speculation that the State exco had called for her sacking at a meeting on Wednesday.

“I am still here and my work has now doubled. How can I be made to resign within a day if I have been given so much to do?” she said when met after the weekly state economic action meeting here.

Faekah had been besieged on all fronts, including within Parti Keadilan Rakyat, after news that she had allegedly issued a letter of support to a relative’s company that applied for a state government contract.

It was also said that the move to oust her was retaliation by her rivals within Selangor PKR for her alleged role as the main instigator behind the recent resignation of the party’s strategic director, Rafizi Ramli, from his post as the chief executive officer of Selangor Economic Adviser’s Office. Rafizi was believed to be among key supporters of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who is leading a faction opposing Khalid.

A source within the Selangor Menteri Besar’s office had said that Khalid did not need to heed any demand from the state executive councillors on the matter as he had the prerogative to decide on Faekah’s position.

“Faekah works for him and only he can sack Faekah,” said the source.

It was reported yesterday that Faekah was expected to resign today after seeking advice from Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
