‘All not well within PAS’
MCA says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is against the unity talks with Umno to show that he still wields the power.
(Free Malaysia Today) – On the surface it appears that all is not well within PAS. The party spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat and party president Abdul Hadi Awang are at odds on holding a muzakarah with Umno.
And, now the MCA has weighed in by inferring that there might be a mutiny within PAS.
“With Nik Aziz and Hadi Awang not agreeing on the muzakarah’ or unity talks with Umno, the public can see a mutiny in the offing,” Perak MCA secretary Tan Chi Meng said in a statement today.
Malay daily Sinar Harian reported that Nik Aziz has continued to insist on the talks with Umno for the sake of Malay unity.
Tan feels that although both Nik Aziz and Hadi want to establish an Islamic state and alter the official position of Islam in the federal constitution, Hadi is aware that their plans to implement hudud would backfire.
The MCA leader further added that this was not the first time that PAS leaders were at loggerheads.
Tan cited the fallout of Kedah state excos Ismail Salleh and Phahrolrazi Zawawi with Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak in March that resulted in PAS central committee appointing an advisory panel.
He also cited Nik Aziz’s support for Election Commission’s biometric system which was rejected by PAS central committee.
Tan also criticised the PAS-led Kedah state government for failing to practice the open tender system for contracts such as the Amansuri Residences worth RM109.55 million and Sungai Limau Hydrocarbon hub (RM36 billion).
