BN Fails to Attack Sand Mining Issue to Counter NFC
And for PKR leaders, you’d better learn how to take criticisms and quit accusing every critics of your movement of being an Umno/BN stooge. For all we know you could be one yourself. The right thing to do is to start looking into evidence on the illegal sand mining that has pretty much been laid out on the open for them and go into a full-blown investigation to regain the trust of the people.
“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies”. – American comedian Groucho Marx
In Malaysia, the ruling political party United Malay National Organisation (Umno) has been attacked so many times by the opposition on many issues. The attacks range from former Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamad Khir Toyo’s court case to Teoh Beng Hock’s and Ahmad Sarbaini’s deaths at MACC offices and the latest being the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal involving Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Shahrizat Abdul Jalil. But lately, it seems that the tide is about to turn when self-exiled blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin published an article in his blog Malaysia Today titled Episode 4: The Selangor Sand-Mining Scandal.
In the article Rja Petra alleged that two PKR state assemblymen played a major role in the said scandal. They were Sri Muda State Assemblyman Mat Suhaimi Shafiei and Batu Caves State Assemblyman Amirudin Shari. Copies of official documentations and cheques were published in the article by Raja Petra to prove his point. The article was published on the Feb 9. Both Suhaimi and Amirudin held press conferences the day after to tell their sides of the story though I have to admit their ‘excuses’ were rather lame in comparison to Raja Petra’s hard facts.
But what I really want to stress here is on Feb 17, exactly eight days after Raja Petra published the article, Selangor Umno deputy liaison chairman Noh Omar issued a press statement saying he will only reveal documents to prove there were acts of sand fraud when the state government holds a “people’s court” to resolve the matter. Not bad, but considering we are in the age of social media network eight days seems like a century long when the government could have responded within hours or even better seconds to put more pressure on PKR and the Selangor government . Why did the ruling government take so long to benefit from Raja Petra’s exposure?
Aren’t the leaders of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) aware of this thing called the social media? BN have been attacked front, center, left and right all this while and when a golden opportunity to give it back to their rivals they took their own sweet time. And this after criticizing PAS for taking more than a week to demand Anwar Ibrahim to retract his Israel-friendly statement he made in Wall Street Journal?
This could be an election year and it looks like BN would rather ignore facts and concentrate on sex scandals involving opposition leaders. Come on Umno, wake up! This is your chance to tell the rakyat that voting for PKR is not the right thing to do seeing as the very party which claims to side with people who rejects injustice are itself corrupt to the core, or at least that’s what Raja Petra is claiming.
We need to see more reactive action from Umno/BN rather than making ridiculous remarks by accusing opposition leaders of being socialists (that will turn Malaysia into a republic) and sexual perverts. We, the rakyat, demand Umno to present hard facts to prove the wrongdoings of opposition leaders just like what Pakatan Rakyat is already doing to them. And to Pakatan leaders, especially PKR, please do not fall into the trap of thinking that we the rakyat are stupid. We are capable of making our own decision and come this GE13 we will show you the true meaning of ‘People Power’. Corruption is totally unacceptable and this applies to all parties including every single leader and elected representatives of PKR.
