Ku Li explains absence at Umno meetings
(NST) – Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said today his absence at meetings of the Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee must not be mistaken for a boycott.
The Gua Musang Umno Division chief said he did not stay away from the meetings on purpose.
“I do not attend, not that I do not want to attend, because I get the invitation (for the meetings) one day late or on the eve of the meetings,” he told reporters after attending a closed-door meeting of the committee with visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here today.
Tengku Razaleigh was asked about his absence at meetings of the committee after the 12th general election in March 2008.
Asked whether the Barisan Nasional (BN) can recapture Kelantan, now ruled by a PAS-led government, he said it is possible if the BN makes adequate preparations.
“We are always confident, but it depends on our preparations and determination,” he said.
Asked whether he would collaborate with opposition party leaders to strengthen his political position, Tengku Razaleigh said in jest: “I am married, right? It is better to be affiliated with my wife!”
