Tourism Malaysia defend tender process

(Bernama) – Tourism Malaysia today defended its advertising tender process, claiming it was carried out in a professional manner.

Responding to recent news reports on the withdrawal of the ISC advertising agency from its advertising pitch, Tourism Malaysia in a statement today said, the tender process was done with strict compliance of the financial and procurement guidelines and regulations prescribed by the government.

“It is important to note that the selection process was through Open Tender which has a clear and structured process and procedure,” said Tourism Malaysia.

It has been reported that ISC, which was responsible for the successful “Malaysia, Truly Asia” campaign, had decided to withdraw its tender offer for a new three-year contract, citing “ambiguity” in the tender process.

Tourism Malaysia in the statement also pointed out that from the 111 tender forms distributed, 34 agencies had submitted their forms for the tender pitch when it closed on Aug 16, last year.

“The reason why it took a bit more time was mainly due to the tedious process, meticulous efforts of the respective main committees, namely the finance committee, the technical committee and the tender committee,” it said.

Tourism Malaysia reiterated that the due diligence could not be compromised at all stages of the evaluation process.

“Nevertheless, we have strived to meet the stipulated time frame,” it said.

“On that note, it is regrettable that ISC has decided to withdraw from the tender, which is their prerogative,” it said. — Bernama
