Malaysian Film Screening & Nasi Lemak Lunch ‘Big Durian’ and ’10 Tahun sebelum Merdeka’

The Abolish ISA Movement UK invite you to a fund raising film screening of 2 widely acclaimed documentaries, Amir Muhamad’s ‘Big Durian’ and Fahmi Reza’s ’10 Tahun Sebelum Merdeka’.

“The Big Durian is an inspired approach to non-fiction cinema. Director Amir Muhammad is both savvy and witty and he uses sly humor not merely to pose dicey questions, but give voice to ideas that no one really wants to talk about, namely to uneasy social politics of race and religion in Malaysia and a government determined to keep it that way.”
-Sean Axmaker, GreenCine

‘October 20th, 1947 was a historical day in the Malayan people’s constitutional struggle for independence from British colonialism. This documentary chronicles the events that culminated in the Malaya-wide ‘Hartal’ day of protest against the undemocratic Federation of Malaya Constitutional Proposals devised by the British Colonial Government, and the rise of the people’s democratic movement in Malaya, ten years before independence.’
