New site for Hindu temple found … in Section 23
(The Malaysian Insider) SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 – An alternative site for the 150-year-old Sri Maha Mariamman temple has been found. The catch is, it is also in Section 23.
The new location is just 100 metres from the hotly disputed site proposed earlier, and 400 metres from any houses in the area.
The issue of relocating the temple had sparked off unhappiness that eventually led to the controversial cow head protest by a group of residents on Aug 30. The same group also successfully disrupted a town hall meeting, called to resolve the issue, on Saturday.
Aware the issue is a powder keg, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim today was quick to point out that all parties concerned would be consulted before any final decision on the relocation is made.
“The state is aware the issue is sensitive and will get consensus from all parties involved in order to resolve the matter.”
The mentri besar said the Sri Maha Mariamman temple committee will be informed about the new site and the matter will be discussed during a meeting.
