Muhyiddin ashamed of Malay opposition leaders’ actions

(Bernama) – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has described as shameful the actions of certain Malay opposition leaders who question the privileges of the Malays, the position of the Malay rulers and the provisions of the Federal Constitution.

The deputy prime minister said they also regarded Umno’s struggle to champion the Malay race as a racial struggle.

“Many Malays are getting angry with this development and they worry that our efforts all this while to defend the rights of the Malays, Islam as the country’s official religion, the dignity of the Malay rulers as heads of state and the position of Maly as the national language, would be undermined,” he said.

The Umno deputy president said this when simultaneously opening the delegates meetings of the Pago Umno division’s Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings in Pagoh here.

Muhyiddin said that in facing this challenge, various efforts must be made to strengthen Umno as Umno was the only organisation that defended the rights of the Malays in the country.

“Other parties are incapable of defending the rights of the Malays. In fact they are willing to pawn the Malay race solely for political gain,” he said.
