Police warn parties against victory procession tomorrow

(Bernama) KUALA KRAI, July 13 – The Royal Malaysia Police today warned parties contesting in the Manik Urai by-election against holding victory processions after the results are announced tomorrow night.

This was to ensure public order, Kelantan Police Chief SAC 1 Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said, stressing that the police would not hesitate to take action against offenders.

Campaigning for the by-election had gone on without any untoward incidents, he told a news conference at the police tactical headquarters in Paloh near here.

Abdul Rahim said that since nomination on July 6, PAS had held 39 ceramah, the Barisan Nasional (BN) 34 and one was held by an independent.

He said 17 reports were made by policemen and members of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on various offences committed throughout the campaign period, such as illegal ceramah.

He said the main roads would not be closed tomorrow but 70 traffic policemen would be deployed in strategic areas to monitor traffic.

Tomorrow 12,293 voters in Manik Urai will choose between BN candidate Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat, 39, and PAS candidate Mohd Fauzi Abdullah, 50, to fill the Manik Urai seat vacated following the death of Ismail Yaakob of PAS on May 22, due to a heart attack.
