Prevent The Tragedy

Even with the support of nine other PAS MPs, political frog Pasir Mas independent MP Datuk Ibrahim Ali and Kulim Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Nordin, who has always been expressing an opposing view in PKR, it would still be 78 plus 11, which equals only to 89 of seats.

Would UMNO and PAS form a unity government?

I have conducted a statistical research which may help you to get the answer.

UMNO possesses 78 out of the 222 parliamentary seats. Meanwhile, other BN member party possess 61 seats with 30 from member parties of Sarawak, 11 from member parties of Sabah, 15 from MCA, 3 from MIC and 2 from Gerakan. Together, BN rules with 139 seats.

Without the parliamentary seats from other member parties, UMNO will only be the largest opposition party.

Today, the conservative right wing of PAS and some UMNO leaders wish to have a great unity for Malay Muslims.

However, without enough of seats, it would just be a unity after all. PAS possesses 24 parliamentary seats and 10 people already signed a statement to stand together with the party’s spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat in which they are firmly oppose to the idea of forming a unity government.

The 10 people are just those who attended the parliamentary sitting last week and I believe that there are definitely more than 10 people who are opposing to the idea.

PAS Vice Presidents Mahfuz Omar and Salahudin Ayub, as well as former Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, are among those who are opposing to the idea. However, they did not made a clear statement because of their party positions or because they were not in the sitting.

Generally, it is believed that at least 15 Members of the Parliament (MP) are having a clear stand to support Pakatan Rakyat’s decision. And only minority members are supporting President Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang and Deputy President Nasharudin Mat Isa.

Also, there are only minority of political parties and factions that are supporting the great unity of Malay Muslims. While other BN member parties are not Malay Muslim parties, particularly those from Sabah and Sarawak, who call themselves multi-racial parties.

Logically, they should not support a mono-Malay Muslim government.

PKR, DAP and the liberal faction of PAS, together with BN member parties who are opposing the idea possess 134 of parliamentary seats, which makes them a majority.

Theoretically, it is quite impossible to form a unity government by UMNO and the conservative faction of PAS.

However, it still depends on the wisdom and courage of BN member parties. The situation will be reversed if they accept the unity government idea under the pressure of UMNO.

By then, BN will no longer be BN and Pakatan Rakyat will collapse. The mono-religious concept will take place while the minority races will have no way to go. Malaysian history will be rewritten by tragedies.
