Mohd Hafiz steps down as Penang PAS Youth head

(The Star) – Penang PAS Youth head Mohd Hafiz Mohd Nordin, who was among the most vocal state leaders that wanted the party to contest in the Penanti state by-election, has stepped down as the wing’s head.

Mohd Hafiz made way for the wing’s former council deputy head Yusni Mat Tiah, a religious scholar, at the wing’s annual “muktamar” assembly in Balik Pulau yesterday.

Mohd Hafiz gave no specific reason for his action.

However, in his farewell speech to the delegates earlier, Mohd Hafiz claimed that he was wrongly quoted by the mass media over a statement that he wanted a PAS Youth candidate to contest in the by-election.

“What I meant was that a PAS member should be allowed to contest the seat and not one from the wing,” Mohd Hafiz said, insisting again that PAS be given an opportunity to contest.

PAS Youth treasurer Mohd Zaki Ibrahim, who is also the Kelantan State Assembly Legislative Deputy Speaker, was uncertain why Mohd Hafiz stepped down.

“But we must respect his decision. I think, he decided to make way for a younger leader,” Mohd Zaki said.

State PKR Youth head Yusmadi Yusoff, who is Balik Pulau MP, congratulated Yusni on his appointment and hoped both their wings can work closer together.
