Showdown in Perak: Police say action will be taken against illegal gatherings
(NST) – Police have warned against illegal gatherings in the vicinity of the State Secretariat building here, where an emergency state assembly sitting is scheduled to be held today.
Perak police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said "action can be taken against those who gather in groups which are deemed to be illegal".
Only employees of the State Secretariat and those who have permission will be allowed into the building.
State Assembly Secretary Abdullah Antong Sabri had declared the emergency sitting unlawful as it had not sought the consent of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah.
The administrator of the building had informed the police that the sitting would not be allowed to take place.
Notices from the management services division of the state secretary's office stating that the main gate to the Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan (State Secretariat building) will be closed on March 3, were issued yesterday.
Commenting on the notices, Perak State Secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Hashim said "my officer told me that they have collected the notices back".
On whether the directive was withdrawn, he said, "I cannot comment on that."
Yesterday evening, Federal Reserve Unit personnel put up barricades at roads leading to the building.
