Malaysians lament about the racism, religious intolerance, persecution and discrimination that prevail in Malaysia. Thus far, over the last few months, all we are hearing are grumbling, lamenting, bitching, whining, complaining, and whatnot. Everyone has ideas on what is wrong. No one has suggested how to put it right. Well, in that case, I am forced to take matters into my own hands and propose the solution.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
1. Encourage inter-race marriages
a) The government should give a one-off marriage grant and interest free loan to all those who marry outside their race. (Later, say after 20 years or so, ban same-race marriages altogether by passing a law in Parliament to make it illegal to marry someone of your own race).
b) Places in schools, colleges and universities should be reserved for children from mixed marriages. Introduce, say, a 30% quota. (This quota can be increased every five years).
c) If all being equal, those of mixed marriages should be given first priority for jobs. (Later, say after 20 years or so, pass a law where at least 30% of employees must be from mixed marriages).
d) Currently, Malaysia has two classes of citizens -- Bumiputeras (first class) and non-Bumiputeras (second class). Create another first class, say mixed or campuran class, and let Bumiputeras be second-class and non-Bumiputeras third-class. (Basically, the mixed class will replace the Umnoputera class, who are higher than the Bumiputera class, and which will now be abolished).
e) Abolish the need for non-Muslims to convert to Islam before they can get married to a Muslim partner. Also, children of mixed marriages must not be forced to follow the religion of their father. Allow them to grow up as freethinkers until they reach the age of 21 (the age when they are allowed to vote) and let them choose what religion they want to follow -- or become an atheist if they wish. Religious education for children must be banned and anyone below 21 must not be made to go to the mosque, church or temple.
2. Introduce a single language, identity and culture
a) Vernacular schools and mother-tongue education should be banned. Have only one type of school -- national schools that teach in the National Language.
b) All signboards, books and whatnot that are not in the National Language should be banned. Allow only those in the National Language.
c) Allow only Malaysian names on birth certificates. Names that reflect a Malay, Chinese, Indian or native identity must be banned. (The government will come out with a list of approved Malaysian names).
d) Ban all cultural activities. No dances, costumes, festivals, celebrations, holidays, etc., that reflect a Malay, Chinese, Indian or native identity must be allowed. Only Malaysian festivals and culture should be allowed and the Cabinet will decide what this new Malaysian culture/identity will look like. Probably the American culture can be adopted as the new Malaysian culture since it does not reflect Malay, Chinese, Indian or native culture.
Once the above is implemented, by the next generation, say in 20 years time or so, racism, religious intolerance, persecution and discrimination will end and by the third generation there will no longer be any Malays, Chinese, Indians or natives in Malaysia.
The bottom line is, we shall all sacrifice to ensure that after some time we shall become a Malaysia of Malaysians and no longer a Malaysia of Malays, Chinese, Indians and natives. And this plan of action is better than just grumbling, lamenting, bitching, whining, complaining, and whatnot, but doing nothing about it other than blaming ‘the other side’ for all our troubles.

Further to my earlier comments, a single mixed race will not happen in Malaysia for as long as UMNO is in power. This is because of the special rights, special priviliges, NEP, etc. that UMNO has promulgated. Every Muslim/Malay wants to claim to be a Malay/bumiputera, because of the attendant special rights/priviligest that comes with such a label. Even converts(like Ridhuan Tee) try to claim to be a true Malay for the special rights that come with it. Only and unless the law is changed can RPK's solution be practicable, i.e. mixed Malaysians will be given special privileges, irrespective of religion and creed.

So from now on, teach your children to love others, all races.
And the economy is also very important,
when we starve, we love nobody, not even our own race, Malaysians cant be poor, if we have a good government.

Your idea is an idealistic one, but I regret to opine that your idea of a single Malaysian race won't happen, not as long as we have UMNO. In the present scenario, everybody wants to be a "Malay", whether they are from KIMMA(Indian Muslims), converts like Ridhuan Tee, and mamaks(you know who the promiment mamaks are) who wants so badly to be called a Malay, and many other Arabs, Sabahans, and Sarwakian converts all rushing for bumiputera status with their attendant special rights, special privileges, and NEP for the special race. I agree with your suggesting of promoting inter-marriage, and which is that any offspring/product of a mixed marriage should be given special preference in education, jobs, scholarships, housing, etc. This is to promote inter-marriage, but this consideration must be made solely on mixed marriages sans religious and cultural issues. The offspring must be a true Malaysian(whatever that means), and not qualified just because he belongs to the special race or to the special religion. Are the Muslim Malays ready for this?

Dear RPK, if the government can just do (1e) then the rest will fall in place. I somehow believe that 50% of the Malay girls will marry outside and 50% of the Indian males will also marry outside and 30 of he Chinese will also marry out if conversion is not enforced. (both Islam and Christianity)
As for languages, I feel more languages the better. English should be the "main language" with any other two compulsory languages like Arabic, Malay, Chinese, Tamil, and the East Malaysian languages. I would not even mind Japanese, German or French in our schools.

After reading trough it, I can't help being suspicious of your intention. Its a satirical piece to invoke the noise of immaturity of some Malaysians. The idea is very ideal to create a true Malaysian race. And this already partially implemented in the eastern part of Malaysia (Sabah) where the Pinos and Indons are already marrying the locals. I think only need 3 solutions:
Abolish NEP, so there is no bumi and non-bumi status and everyone have equal rights.
Have human rights extended to muslims to allow them the choice of their religion.
The rest will take care of itself, no need to promote inter-racial marriages because everyone when everyone are treated EQUAL mixed marriages will automatically follow. 9. Promote unity amongst all races and all schools should have adequate facilities to teach Chinese, Tamil, Urdu, Thai, Tagalog and also Hindi. The reason for this is that our citizens have their origins from our neighboring countries who uses these languages. We must tap on this close proximity for the nations economic future.
10. All Quota systems must be abolished immediately. This is the root cause of racialism in Malaysia.
If these are implemented, in 10 - 20 years a truly Malaysian identity will slowly be developed with mutual respect for each other. A matured thinking society will emerge and we will be more dynamic than any of our neighbors.

All these suggestions are rubbish and unworkable. The problem lies with Islam and the inflexible and rigid rules of tak boleh makan babi, tak boleh minum John Smith bitter etc . My workable solution is to ask ALL the chinese to leave Malaysia to another less hostile country, which I am glad to see already happening ( 1-2 millions chinese already escaped from the clutches of Malays to settle in Singapore... etcs) The greatest mistake made by our Singkek ancestors was to escape the war and poverty from China to settle in hostile-lands of Nusantara. Due to lack of jobs and the economy, I see the ugly sentiments rearing up with the backlash against the illegal immigrants that are now being blamed for the many ills of our society here. All immigrants are the vital part in revitalizing the American economy with their entrepreneurial skills. If Malaysia cannot appreciate the vital contributions of its "pendatangs" or even citizens. it will always be at a disadvantage against even a small tiny country like Singapore.

Except for the freedom to practise religion, I don't like the others. Hope they are not implemented anytime in the future. But at least someone is making suggestions.

Bro Pete, I am all for it, no qualms when all ground is neutral. I have always (not believe) agree in the aspect of a middle ground. No religion is compulsory and children of mixed marriages should not be compelled by law to follow the father's religion, children should be taught in the education system about value of human love, kindness and environment.
Item e) is what I have always envisioned to what we would be able to proudly address as ourselves as Truly Malaysian and everything is therefore pro human rights in the constitution where every 'individual rights' are safeguarded in its own right, no one shall trample on other and not one be trampled upon by another whereby religion will be a personal right, one is free to choose to be in or leave, making this a choice of a very personal right to be respected in law. There will be no more a problem of a country where religion can supersede the political system of what is deemed to be of human rights and values.
Yes, in the next twenty years we will be a whole new generation that can declare ONE Nation that see a bountiful harvest of educated citizen when race and religion is no more a political tool when the system protects every individual citizen's rights.
If only this had been the stewardship of past captains, I for one would have been betrothed to by these nice ladies(yes they are more willing to marry me if I want to marry them therefore I say I would be betrothed to). No, not about popularity contest, even as today, a lot of Aminahs and Airas are still looking at me but unfortunately it is my personal choice that religion cannot therefore be a compulsion(to me, a personal choice) and they knew they cannot share their love interest even though they wish they can. Otherwise, we do not even have to be concerned with dirty politics if they had introduced this system of mixed marriages without boundary, umno and BN will always win the hearts of the people when individual rights come first, we by now would have been a strong government supported by the generations of people!

It's a fat hope, a fat dream. RPK is being tricky again. By the natural law of choice, not only this ultimate mix-marriage type of proposals to resolve Malaysia's racial problems will not succeed for this country, it will never succeed anywhere else in this whole wide world!
I suggest a modern day holocaust to drive off all non-Malays from Malaysia would be more direct, less idealistic and sounds a better solution. Like the good doctor said, do not treat the symptom, treat the cause. And the cause is, as we all know, is UMNO and Mahathir! They have already secretly proceeded with their 'silent' holocaust plan a long time ago to drive as much non-Malays as possible from Malaysia, whether qualified or unqualified on top of legalising the entry of illegal Muslim foreigners.
Our immediate solution? Drive UMNO and Mahathir out of Putrajaya and Petronas building first during the next GE and perhaps half nation's solutions would be found! The other fifty per cent of our racial problems would more or less fall in place over time, maybe even less time than the 20-years time to be taken from wholesale mix-marriages! Hahah, wouldn't it be nice if Malaysians quickly succeed in kicking out UMNO and Mahathir instead than to be left with the limited choice of a mix-marriage or eventually be chased out of their own country?
What say you, fellow Malaysians, do we want to give it a try under these strange and foreboding circumstances to chase UMNO and Mahathir out from their anti-national comfort zones first? If so, whatever the distractions, unite we must continue to do under the opposition forces or the positive NGOs to make even the seemingly unlikely happen, Surprise can strike twice in a row if the people remain determined and united in fighting for the noble Malaysian cause!

Correct me if I am wrong but yours is a satirical piece isn't it? You're half-serious as in, you are inviting / instigating us to offer solutions rather than the run-of-the-mill "Let's destroy (insert name/nickname)" comments.
Yet, at the same time your article highlights an extreme case of racism in practice. How would the Umnoputera, bumiputera, and non-bumis feel if there is this new super-hybrid race that is now going to take over all those goodies reserved for the Umno- and bumiputeras?
Surely it spotlights that we should abolish racist or "affirmative action" policies altogether and jolly well behave like Malaysians instead of being an ethnically-differentiated Malaysian.

In a multicultural country like ours, we are fighting against our very own human nature. Everyone has a streak of racist blood in him or her, like it or not. In any country or community, the majority will always act preferentially in favour of their own kind, regardless of whether they are Malay, Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Pakistani, or whatever.
What differentiates a racist from a non-racist is the individual's values - his culture, upbringing, education and so forth. The learned person recognises and rejects/suppresses this racist streak, and acts for the welfare of all. So, it is a measure of social intelligence (a form of Emotional Intelligence), maturity and education.
Perhaps then, a better solution is to improve the standard and objectives of education: to develop a mature-thinking nation. Perhaps, another solution is to enhance faith education - not about the do's and don'ts of one's actions, but to truly love and serve our Maker. If we truly follow such commandments, surely we will act accordingly.
As you so eloquently pointed out, Islam teaches great values that reject corruption, racism, forced proselytisation and many more. Other major world religions share similar values. Isn't it better then, that all the faithful can be more faithful? If we all do this, again we will not have this problem.
Why worry about hudud or whatever? If everyone abides by God's law, there is no one and nothing to punish.

e) Abolish the need for non-Muslims to convert to Islam before they can get married to a Muslim partner. Also, children of mixed marriages must not be forced to follow the religion of their father. (or their mother).

My sentiments exactly. If you could refer to my comments eons ago. I wrote something similar that we can never have unity in Malaysia unless there is inter marriages and we speak the same (common) language, Manglish, Singlish, Bahasa Pasar, whatever.
Doesn't seem that we have progressed far since my revelation. Huh....my heart bleeds even more when i hear it coming from you now! Shows the sorry state of my (our) country. I have multi racial and multi lingual family members and i came about this from practical and real life situations. Even among family members we have confrontations and conflicts what more a country. Malaysia is also one big family isn't it.
Start small and in your own famillies, then neighbours and work from there. It is not too late. Generations from now...we will, eventually, have a REAL Malaysian walking the streets of Malaysia. But will each and everyone here put aside their egos for this to happen? Don't hide behind race, language and especially, religion.

I support the idea. Mine is already a mixed marriage. (I mix all the time.

I'm not sure about the schools. We should allow various languages to be taught in schools, including Kadazandusun and Dayak, in order for the policy to be accepted and go through.

Regardless lets just pretend that its a real proposed solution.
Although I agree that yes, eventually it will very well decrease issues on race, religion and discrimination, but at what cost? We will lose the very thing that makes Malaysia unique, cultural diversity.
what will happen to the rendang I always eat at my buddy's place during Hari Raya? What about the awesome chicken curry I always get during deepavali? Will it be replaced with a grotesque dish of meat, which can't decide whether it wants to be wet or dry? (I'm using food analogies, sorry. I'm hungry)
Anyway, Point being, I believe racial unity is much more worth it than racial abolishment, even though it is harder to achieve.
