So why are we blaming Britain (a country that in the first place never colonised Malaya) for a law that we introduced three years AFTER the British went home and three years AFTER Malaya gained self-rule or Merdeka (from a country that never colonised us)?

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Najib Razak's Moment

Selamat Hari Malaysia! Today, 16.9.2011, will go down in history as Najib Razak's day. Nobody expected Malaysia's 6th Prime Minister to have the gumption to scrap the I.S.A. But last night, in a widely-followed Merdeka/Malaysia Day address, he scrapped it. Just like that, and in Bahasa Malaysia, he ended one of colonial Britain's most despised gifts to this nation. The move stunned the usually vociferous political rivals into silence, says the MOLE.* Until way past midnight, the blogs of Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Kit Siang had yet to laud the move.

And laud it we Malaysians must.

Thank you Mr Prime Minister, and thank you to those who have fought to end this colonial legacy.

Merdeka and Selamat Hari Malaysia.

http://www.rockybru.com.my/2011/09/najib-razaks-moment.html

**********************************

Hold on a minute! Am I missing something here? The above was what Rocky’s Bru posted two hours ago.

However, two things do not seem to make sense here.

First of all, Malaysia was never colonised by Britain. So say ‘notable’ Malaysian historians. So how can, as Rocky’s Bru said, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak have “ended one of colonial Britain's most despised gifts to this nation”?

If Malaysia was never colonised by Britain, then surely the ISA can’t be "one of colonial Britain’s most despised gifts to this nation".

Nevertheless, I am extremely glad that Rocky’s Bru agrees that the ISA is a ‘most despised’ law, as what we in the opposition have been saying for so long, and as I have been saying for 35 years since the 1970s when I first became politically active in the era when many of you were still sucking on your mother’s tits.

Secondly, even if Malaya was colonised by Britain, as Rocky’s Bru now seems to admit, we declared Merdeka in August 1957 when the Union Jack was lowered and the new Malayan flag was raised and when we stopped singing ‘God Save the Queen’ and replaced it with the song 'Terang Bulan', which was stolen from a Hawaiian song called ‘Mamula Moon’ and which we renamed ‘Negara Ku’.

The Internal Security Act 1960, however, as the Act itself suggests, was made into law in 1960, three years AFTER Merdeka. That’s why it is called the Internal Security Act 1960 and not the Internal Security Act 1948 (when the Emergency was first declared and when Britain was still running the country).

So why are we blaming Britain (a country that in the first place never colonised Malaya) for a law that we introduced three years AFTER the British went home and three years AFTER Malaya gained self-rule or Merdeka (from a country that never colonised us)?

That’s the part that seems to escape me.

Super Admin, could have fooled me completely. Perhaps one used the word "detain" and the other "incarcerate". One restricts the detainment to only 1 year and the other allows for indefinite incarceration. One warrant is issued by some colonial kwailo and the other by the home minister. But then again, what does an uninformed peasant know?

After much thought and discussion with like-minded friends, I am now 100% convinced that Najib is not sincere about repealing the ISA. The shrewd fox talks about two new laws replacing it in recognition of the need to respect indivdual freedom. Bull...t! IN ACTUALITY, IT IS TO COVER HIS AND HIS CRONIES' AND MINISTERS' ARSE.

The ISA is repealed to protect themselves against ISA being used against them in case they lose the GE13! The new PKR government will be toothless! Simple as that! Period!

Fart Fart Wah, they don't need the ISA to incarcerate an individual for crimes against the State. Neither do they need to introduce a new law for it as there are existing laws that empowers them to doing so. This law is called the Emergency Ordinance (EO) and instead of the Home Minister having to issue the warrant, any PDRM officers above the rank of Superintendent can approve it. Similarly, the EO allows the security forces to incarcerate an individual without trial.
...
written by Hakim Joe, September 17, 2011 12:40:48
RPK, the matter of fact remains that the Brits introduced the Emergency Regulations Ordinance in 1948 and ISA is but a name change for the same law. The only visible difference is that the ERO only allows the incarceration (without trial) of an individual for 1 year whilst the ISA extends the detention period to 2 years and that this incarceration can be continued indefinitely without having to provide any reason whatsoever.

Is this a gift from the Brits? Yes, it is and similarly the Singaporeans accepts this gift from us.

I think what we are missing here is the usual wayang kulit director. He has come up with a way of getting rid of the ISA with a new ISA whcih will not be called ISA but maybe the MSA...Malaysian Security Act. In this new act it will be used to camouflage the old one. for example: instead of just two weeks detention on suspicion for crimes against the Agong..they will lengthen it to 3 months maximum. Then find you guilty( arrest you as soon as you are freed) for another score and lengthen it another 3 months. The law is flexible and it is relative of who is running the government. If the targeted supposed crime is against the powerful in government than the victim will be worse off with the new legislation.
For example; now they cannot put you under ISA for coming back for insulting Islam. So they might arrest you again and put you under the syriah for reformation and this reformation might take years. ( you are a hard nut to crack -you see.) Soo you go in go out go in go out..until they crack you or make you and apostate. In which case by then they will feel justified to slit your throat.Or they might arrest you for giving false evidence against Rosmah..and who knows ..you may disappear..somewhere in Shah Alam. 2 military officers will deliver the c4 to her at midnight and they will remain there till the next morning servicing her demands. So don't get excited to run back to Malaysia..yet..

Don't forget the official orang puteh are the UMNOBIGdogs..worst than the orang puteh..

Umno's SOP (standard operating procedure) is to blame everybody else and not own-self. Malaysians are expected to feel grateful to PM for having announced the intention to repeal the ISA which was put into law in 1960. But of course, PM and Umno blames the British for having introduced this dreaded law although the country became independent in 1957.
But then where got "free lunch"? As Penang CM rightly warned, beware......abolish the ISA but introduce two of the same kind.

The rakyat must thank the opposition and all those who fought hard against the ISA and suffered pain, torment, physical and mental anguish as a consequence. It is the rakyat's victory!

Najib finally came to his senses if he has any. But don't celebrate yet. UMNO/BN are tricky people. They may have abolished ISA but 2 additional new laws may be the same or worse than the ISA; in essence a change in name, but more of the same.

The rakyat should not trust Najib cos it is an election ploy!

We should work hard to kick out UMNO/BN cos they are insincere. What about the AG, IGP, reform of the Judiciary and Police, eradicting corruption and nailing Tajudin etc etc?

We can only be sure of change IF WE SUCCEED in changing this despicable and arrogant government.

Do not forget GE 13. We should all vote for the opposition for TRUE CHANGE to come about.

Malaysia is a beautiful country spoiled by racism, corruption, discrimination and dirty politics of UMNO/BN and its running dogs. The old UMNO was for the people cos the members were mostly civil servants, teachers, fishermen and simple kampong folks. But the UMNOputeras now consists of corrupt, greedy, unethical and rent-seeking businessmen looking for a return of their investment for financially helping the party.

Malaysia will not be free untill we have a new government. Right now, UMNO/BN don't even know if we had been colonised.

We in East Malaysia feel cheated all these years cos we were forced to celebrate Malaysia Day on 31st August when THERE WAS NO MALAYSIA UNTILL 16th September 1963! And all our subservient East Malaysian politicians and Chief Ministers played along in the greatest distortion of history by UMNO and the BN government AND INSULTING OUR INTELLIGENCE. Thanks to the opposition parties, Putra Jaya yielded to massive public opinion. But I still remember many opposition leaders were arrested by PDRM when they gathered at the Central Padang (Padang Merdeka) on 16th September each year. Putra Jay has been deceiful and lying to East Malaysians. And now they are distorting history and claiming credit for independence struggle. If we have not been colonised, why we need to struggle for independence? Why commemorate 31st August? Why label the Tunku as Bapa Malaysia?

I think the East Malaysians are bitter and angry till this day cos we just changed our colonial masters from the white men to the brown men. The sentiment in East Malaysia is such that nobody cares to fly the flag. Malaysia Day is just like any other day, no sign of festivity and flags on cars, private buildings. People just stay at home and relax. There is no sign of "patriotism" from flying the flag! People feel alienated, despised and cheated. Malaysia Day is a non-event in East Malaysia and our political leaders should be blamed for all this. The Malaysian Federation was supposed to be one of equal partnership but it turned out to benefit the powers-that-be in Putra Jaya.

But look at what is happening in Sabah and worse still in Sabah and Labuan? UMNO grabs everything. Sarawak is a bit lucky thanks to Taib who does not welcome UMNO so that he too can be corrupt with impunity. You help me, I help you and you don't kacau me. Look at all the Department Heads. Are they not all West Malaysians??

Scrapping of ISA is due to PM Najid's vision? Or his change of heart?

Obviously he is forced to do so, but he is hoping that the move will earn him credit. Nah!

He has just mentioned few days ago Malaysia is so short of investment by locals, and doubtfully there are many foreigners if locals also choose to leave. If nothing is done, EU crisis is there for everyone to have a peep into how bad and painful it can be. Those who suffer the most obviously will be "UMNO Ketuanan" free entitlement thinking idiots.

In Malaysia, the racial extremists should be sent to finance ministry, then of course they can play magic to print all the required cash to sustain the country, or they will have to be realistic and understand the real economic law of this world. If you are so special, take everything for yourselves but the real economy generator and locomotive will just wave farewell to you for good.

We are talking about the master of flip-flop here. The 2 substituting laws could very well be as debilitating and who will administer them. Same old same old.

But, consider the man and his circumstances; global scandals on the horizon, the umno-putras edging closer with their keris, kuthy and daim-ler looking gleefully from the balcony seats.

What would a desperate man do?
How do you pull the carpet from under your opponents' feet ?
How do you ensure that if you have to be pulled down for your wrongs, you land lightly and survive another term?

This is what kuthy and daim-ler want; the re-birth of a new UMNO to disguise the continuity in the way they have always done business.

And that is why we have to see through the sham and vote them all out.
My champagne is still in the storage until we clean UMNO/bn out.
Bersih!

Najib should keep running as fast as he can for himself to finish the RAHMAN finish line and immediately pass the baton to Anwar. But if he Najib chooses to not pass and thinks he can swim with those diseased sharks within his party(a new name meaning, read:party animals) then he better quicken his already intention to put Anwar behind bars before the GE-13, we will love to hear that he does it as much as we would like to be seen as a good thing.

So Najib, either you run quickly while you are at RAHMAN, then pass it to Anwar(ABU, Anwar Bukan Umno, option one or two, put him in jail before the GE-13. Of course you can choose but either one will be good, option two, Anwar, the ex DPM will be a PM in jail waiting to be released!

BTW, once you Najib is off the PM chair, perhaps you might have to consider doing a 'Thaksinvorce' on Rosie, let her roll freely, to save yourself of years of abuse and save mother earth with all her waste of money and resources on luxury!

My first hand take on the PM's announcement -

1. Mamak is furious cos he cannot incacerate his political opponents when the ISA is gone. No repeat of Operation Lallang. But he can always throw and disseminate more DNA around to implicate his foes with the collaboration of the AG, PDRM and Chemistry Department.

2. PM Najib may not lopse anything. He said new legislation would replace the ISA. We have yet to see what this legislation is and it may be just as bad and worse than the one that's being repealed. But remember he does not have the 2/3rd majority in Parliament.

3. The rakyat may still be the loser. Do not bet just yet your freedom would be any better. Even without the ISA, PDRM can still act like the Gestapo and come knocking at your doors at midnight for the most frivalous reasons. And they can plant all the DNA they wish. That's the way they work and this would never change, with or without the ISA.
...
written by AlwaysFair, September 16, 2011 08:20:37
Don't forget, he said there will be 2 new laws enacted to replace this repealed ISA. The threats still remain for the opposition. Just like 1Malaysia looks like all are treated equal but the real situation is different. Even the anti-sodomy laws hanging over Anwar's head is also outdated because Britain already repealed it. They even allow same sex marriages now.But of course they won't repeal this most draconian act because they want to neutralise Anwar.

For me the real Merdeka is when we are free of the most hated and corrupted BN, who colonised and marginalised us after the British left. I will truly celebrate Merdeka when Pakatan is ruling this country when there should be true justice meted out in the courts and enforcement arms like MACC and PDRM are doing their jobs to rid of crimes, instead of covering up crimes.

I still think all the laws are just tools and it is the user who is important. If we have laws that are so unfair like ISA and anti-sodomy laws I am sure even if they still exist when Pakatan were to run the govt, they will not abuse it to crush opposition. If the despotic ruling party is still power crazy and corrupted and wants to win at all cost (even if it meanst snuffing out innocent lives like TBH's), even you have no ISA, etc, they will still come out with EO or other ways to criminalise people. So ultimately, even if the repeal of ISA is much lauded, the integrity of the ruling govt is far more important and I think the current govt have totally lost theirs.

This is a victory for People Power if it ever comes to pass. Thanks to people like RPK. Najib is now fighting for his political life, and this gesture from him should be welcomed. It'll be interesting to hear what other BN big-shots say about this move as they have been opposed to changing these laws for over 50 years. Will they continue to oppose this and force Najib to reverse his decision, or change their tune to welcome this? It's lose-lose either way for BN.
