Let’s accept one fact. Umno is the problem. And the problem can never become the solution. And if Ku Li thinks that the solution to the problem is to reform Umno, then he is barking up the wrong tree. And this would mean AMANAH is going to fail.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

On Friday, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) is going to launch a new movement called Angkatan Amanah Merdeka (AMANAH), according to Free Malaysia Today (you can read the full news coverage below).

Some are probably going to say that this is in response to the 9th July 2011 BERSIH rally or that the success of BERSIH has inspired certain people into making this move. Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions, AMANAH was actually in the cards since last year and was an idea that was not only a long time in making but also a long time in waiting.

However, just as BERSIH has been accused of being a vehicle or tool of the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (or of Anwar Ibrahim), so will AMANAH be accused of being a vehicle or tool of Umno (or of Ku Li). This is mainly because of the personalities behind, or perceived to be behind, the movement (in BERSIH’s case it is ‘perceived to be behind’).

Ku Li is probably one of the last of the better people in Umno. I would be quite prepared to follow Ku Li. But I would find it difficult to follow him if he remains in Umno.

And that is the problem I am facing.

In his hati kecik (small heart), Ku Li wants to reform Umno. He still believes that Umno can be reformed. But I do not share this view. The only way Umno can be reformed would be to kick it out of office and let it remain a decade or two as an opposition party. Only then will it see the need to reform.

It will reform only because it wants to get back into power.

To be fair, Ku Li is not holding any senior party position in Umno. But that does not mean he is no longer significant to Umno. There are still many people in Umno who look up to him and place hopes in him in bringing reforms to Umno, although that group may be a minority rather than a majority.

Ku Li is never going to become the President of Umno. And this means he is not going to become the Prime Minister either if he is trying to do that as the President of Umno.

If Ku Li is hoping that by reforming Umno this can ensure he becomes the President of the party, and therefore the Prime Minister of Malaysia, then his perjuangan (struggle) will be seen as very narrow indeed. And he is going to face the same problem that Anwar Ibrahim is facing -- in that people view his perjuangan as being about becoming the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Ku Li has to decide whether what he is doing is about reforming Umno or about reforming the country. And he also has to decide whether what he is doing is about serving the rakyat or about serving his own interest (to become Prime Minister).

This is the criticism that Anwar is facing. And it is going to be the same criticism that Ku Li is going to face as well. This is inevitable.

How is Ku Li going to convince everyone that AMANAH is not about Umno and what he is doing is not about ensuring he becomes Prime Minister? This is the task ahead of him. This is the obstacle Anwar is facing and is going to be the obstacle that Ku Li will face as well.

In the meanwhile, I am prepared to give Ku Li the benefit of the doubt unless proven otherwise. We shall support AMANAH until it is proven that AMANAH is not about the rakyat’s agenda but about a personal agenda.

Ku Li, however, will need to do some hard selling. Is he prepared to go all the way by even resigning from Umno to prove that this is not about Umno or about his personal quest to become Prime Minister?

Let’s accept one fact. Umno is the problem. And the problem can never become the solution. And if Ku Li thinks that the solution to the problem is to reform Umno, then he is barking up the wrong tree. And this would mean AMANAH is going to fail.

Ku Li wants to rekindle spirit of founding fathers
Syed Jaymal Zahiid, Free Malaysia Today

Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will launch a new group to rekindle spirit of national unity.

KUALA LUMPUR: Respected Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, popularly known as Ku Li, is set to launch his new outfit Angkatan Amanah Merdeka (Amanah) aimed at nurturing unity as espoused by the country’s founding fathers.

Amid a more racially divided Malaysia, Amanah said in a statement today the group bids “to reaffirm, inculcate and re-ignite the sense of togetherness and true family spirit that prevailed among all Malaysians during the time of our common struggle for national independence”.

It also said it wants to rekindle the legacy, promise and ideals of Bapa Malaysia and the founding fathers so that all Malaysians may live together as members of a truly just, fair, progressive, united and happy nation community.

Its other objectives are:

    * To earnestly acknowledge, affirm and respect the sovereignty of the constituent states of the Malaysian Federation, consistent with the principles of federalism, democratic principles and in the true spirit of the Federal Constitution.

    * To ensure that our national institutions respect and uphold the rule of law, democratic principles, rights and universal values.

    * To support a government and administration that is transparent and accountable, truly competent, efficient, free of corruption and cronyism, clean and honest, fair and trustworthy, and that will be fully able to serve its functions and meet its responsibilities, freely and fairly; an administration that will always be mindful of the rights and interests of the people in whose name and cause it is appointed to serve.

    * To promote the socio-economic well-being of the people, so that all Malaysians may enjoy truly advanced, progressive, fair and equitable lives – individually upholding filial piety and other noble values and collectively joined together in sincere family kinship as members of our national community and as stakeholders in our common national destiny.

    * To support an economic policy that will help achieve and sustain a high standard of living for the people, based on the principle of justice, fairness and balance, consistent with the constitution and under a stable monetary condition.

Razaleigh, who is the group’s founding president, will deliver his keynote speech on Friday at the Memorial Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra here.

The Kelantan prince, said to be the “last statesman”, has been very critical towards his own party Umno, the Malay linchpin in the Barisan Nasional.

He has often called for Umno, whose image is badly tarnished by its racial politics, to return to the party’s original struggles – the guardian of all races in the country.

I have nothing against Kuli to be PM. In fact I think if he had been PM instead of the Mamak, Malaysia would have been a wonderful country. He is a good leader, very experienced and have all the good qualities.

UNfortunately he is only mildly effective, just like Ong Tee Keat. Even with his popularity, integrity and anti-corruption stand he was toppled because MCA is subservient to UMNO and no one so "clean," as him can survive long in top post.

Even if I voted for Kuli, he would still be working under the umbrella of Barisan and their mobsters like MACC and PDRM!!! Even if I voted for Ong Tee Keat it is the same result!!

So vote Pakatan for the party's manisfesto and objectives are for better governance and justice which will be a government who will do things for the people, instead of just oppressing them.

Long Live Pakatan!!!
We need independant MACC, PDRM and judges that are more accountable to the people!!
We need a govr that respect people's HUMAN rights.

whatever it's, i don't really look up to Ku Li, i'm from the 80s generation, and seriously, i don't what ku li can do or what he has done good to the country. What i know is, he betrayed you Pete when you were in deep shit to keep his sorry ass in UMNO. As long as he stays in UMNO, i will never give him a chance. No to ku li, and definitely NO to Barisan Najis.

Ku Li, you have to wait for Malaysians to bring down BN first. When BN is down, it means UMNO is down. When UMNO is down then the members will have the courage to overthrow them. When they are overthrown, then come your chance. The only problem is age is not at your side.

Agree with RPK. We think you are one of the only good Malaysians left in UMNO. Your plan is noble but it will be killed by your own party even before it can breath any fresh air. As long as you are in UMNO, nothing good can evolve from there.

Ku LI seems to freak out once in a blue moon and it looks like a good agenda. As long as he does not come out of his comfort zone his promising agenda will only remain in the air. My observation of Ku Li is that, he does not have the energy and drive anymore.

When a regime has become as corrupt and debauched as this one, it has gone beyond any possibility of reform. As such it has no hope of redemption, so stop fooling yourselves. Perhaps the only possibility is resurrection, but it first has to die, and then be re-created without the dirt and corruption, as it was in the beginning over 50 years ago. I seem to recall the history of mankind is full of such examples.

If it can't do this, it can stay dead for all I care.

Why KuLi need to quit UMNO to serve the rakyat? KuLi is more helpful if he remains in UMNO.
Even better Anwar can work together with KuLi, and serve the rakyat.
Sort of join-venture towards better Malaysia.
Most important here, working together for better Malaysia.

Ku Li is wasting our time.

As of now, neither Anwar or anyone else in the country can bring about the changes that we need. Pakatan has failed to bring change it promised. I did not see any substantial change in Penang, Kedah or Selangor in 3 years!

How is it going to be different when Pakatan gets to Putrajaya? Are they going to make the corrections in the intake of non bumis in government service? By how much? An intake of 100,000 Chinese and Indians within 3 years? Or is it going to be a meaningful amount of 300,000? Are they going to retrench 600,000 Malays from the civil service? If not, why not?

Lets focus on that for a while. Let us focus on only on that till the next GE. Let us ask Teresa Kok, LGE, Hadi Awang, Dr. Jayakumar, etc. I want these bastards and lying fvcks to answer.

Dear Pete,

Putting “UMNO” and “Amanah” together does not work. UMNO does not jive with the true meaning of “Amanah”. Amanah is alien to UMNO. It is like putting a fish on land or, putting Ibrahim Ali in a group of pent up Bersih protesters or, to a more extreme example; putting Ustaz Hadi Awang in an UMNO’s “dangdut” night club. These are examples of two things that doesn’t match or that doesn’t compliment each other. It will not work, never with UMNO!

Haven’t you notice that UMNO and “Bersih” could not jive. For UMNO, the concept of Bersih is a no, no in their culture. Anything Bersih is taboo; free and fair election, the color yellow, no gerrymandering, etc, etc!

What I am saying is that Like Ambiga, Ku Li has noble intentions, and that is good for the nation. In fact, very good indeed! “Amanah” bids “to reaffirm, inculcate and re-ignite the sense of togetherness and true family spirit”. But racist UMNO can’t survive if all Malaysians come together. . ., hence, it is impossible for UMNO to subscribe this “Amanah” thing. UMNO’s spin lapdog Utusan will have to close business if all communities come together as a family! UiTM too will have to throw away its Ibrahim Ali’s award!

Almost all of it’s’ 5 point objectives is not palatable to UMNO. I don’t think UMNO wants the government agencies such as the PDRM, AG Office, MACC, the EC and the judiciary system to be transparent. Nahh. . ., I don’t think so. This is a far fetch thing for UMNO to do. Imagine this; Gunny Fcuk Tahi will have to abandon his favorite pastime hobby, i.e., fabricating evidence. The IGP and his men in blue will have to stop putting “parang” in the hands of innocent victim being shot dead! MACC will not be able to do what they are good at when extracting false confession. . ., throwing people out of the window. And the Chief of the EC will not be able to resurrect voting dead people! Nahh. . ., Pete, I don’t think UMNO wants this “Amanah” thing!

Another objective. . ., sustaining high economic growth so that all Malaysians will enjoy a high standard of living? My goodness! Ku Li got to be kidding. The only standard of living that are getting higher are the thieves in the ranks of the UMNO elites. They have never stopped plundering the peoples’ money. Huh,. . .! higher standard of living for the people. . ., a RM 73 million ring would be nice for me!

Regardless, if Ku Li has all the confidence that his “Amanah” proposal will materialized and he thinks that UMNO really wants to be a “be a born party”, then, I wish him all the luck!

Yes- "Let's Focus".

Hmmmm ... now I cannot rip Pakatan Rakyat through propaganda becos my nincompoops are too dumb (even the one from Oxford) ....
MACC teaches people how to fly ...
The Univesities are courting disaster by offering Ibbit ali awards.
The media is braindead in that they rehash conspiracy theories about Jews/Christians/Hindus/Chinese/Indians/Eskimos etc etc etc
PDRM is hopeless- the spray chemical laced water jets & fire tear-gas into hospitals to protect patients.
The racist Ibbit Ali is a joke of titanic proportions ......
Nazri says that you cannot glorify Commies, but it's okay to give Chinese dignitaries a red-carpet welcome ....
Hishamudin says Cow-head protestors and screaming for Chinese blood is cool, but Bersih t-shirts & asking for clean elections is forbidden on the streets ...

Okay- here's the plan ...

Let's get a dinosaur political flunky in UMNO to start talking some real reason as a facade ... he must be a turncoat who was a loser in an earlier struggle ..... he must be able to talk about high-flung ideals, morality, rule of law through an "NGO" or some sort of campaign with a sweet smelling name.
He doesn't have to prove anything .... just has to talk or even fart- the idiots in these NGOs should be able to fall for him even if he farts .... just becos of his name.
APCO can help him with his speeches ... maybe some PR leaning NGOs which are non-partisan will fall for it - you know that idealistic hogwash an all ... but his allegiance must be to us.

We need a loser who can talk about the "Social Contract" to bolster our racist platform ... who might that person be?

"Let's Focus" ....

As long as Ku Li is a member of Umno, there's no use talking about AMANAH or whatever Nah. The hate and distrust for Umno and their eunuchs in BeEnd is so bad that there is no way Ku Li can peddle AMANAH to the rakyat because any way you cut it, we will still see the link between AMANAH, Ku Li and Umno. The sordid experience with our politicians especially of the Umno/BeEnd/katak kind, has left me totally distrustful of most of our politicians except for some who had proven themselves over the years. In my mind, Ku Li has not proven himself so far. No action, talk only (NATO) and still an Umno loyalist. All I know is that he lost all the battles he fought in Umno for so many years and is he now looking for new opportunities elsewhere to seek personal glory? I would rather support fresh new enthusiastic and well educated politicians than keep on supporting old, tired and stale politicians over and over again. We need to make that paradigm shift for a better tomorrow. Make that change. smilies/wink.gif

The basis underlying UMNO is narrow racist Malay nationalism. On such a basis, national unity is not possible unless seduction and/or force is used. This means true national unity is impossible under UMNO.

True national unity can only occur with Malaysian nationalism or something even bigger. UMNO is too narrow and too dirty for the job.

When HRH Sultan of Perak taked about the ideals of justice and upholding the rule of law, the next thing that happened is the fall of the Perak State Government.

When the Home Menteri talks, Bersih became illegal, including all the yellow T-shirts and neckties. They even arrest you for wearing them in the private confinment of a room.

When the PM talks, he says the Government treats bersih participants with kids goves.

When Ibrahim Ali talks, foul and racial slur is spewed out like venom.

When Ku Li talks, he's 20 years behind real politics happening on the ground and he's still in Alice wonderland.

When MACC talks, someone has to die on their premises.

When Ambiga talks, 30,000 or more walked on the streets to rally behind her to promote a just and fair cause for free and electoral reforms.

Talk is all over. Let's start walking again.
