Majority and minority

Friday, 24 May 2013 Super Admin

Politicians need to be very careful in how they talk. Barisan Nasional boasts about the higher number of seats it got and claims it represents the majority. Pakatan Rakyat boasts about the higher number of votes it got and claims it represents the majority. But both got roughly only 20% each of the votes. What about the rights of the 80% other Malaysians who did not vote for you? Are you saying they do not matter?

Time and place decides what’s fair (UPDATED with Chinese translation)

Thursday, 23 May 2013 Super Admin

For all intents and purposes, this article is a purely academic exercise to discuss the issue of fair or fairness. I have attached the issue of election boundaries (in the addendum below) merely as the emphasis in discussing this issue. The point I wish to make, however, is that if you subscribe to the doctrine of relativity (a state of dependence in which the existence or significance of one entity is solely dependent on that of another), then everything is open to interpretation and subject to time and place plus dependent on whom you are.

The Sedition Act (1948)

Thursday, 23 May 2013 Super Admin

The Sedition Act started life as the 1351 English Statute of Treasons. Hence sedition is closely associated with treason. In the 1500s, King Henry VIII broke away from Rome and established the Church of England with him and not the Pope in Rome as the head of the church and God’s representative on earth. This was, of course, heavily opposed and criticised by the Catholics and this was when the sedition law was heavily used. Those found guilty of sedition were put to death or at the very least imprisoned with their ears cut off.

And then came CHINRAF

Wednesday, 22 May 2013 Super Admin

The absence of Chinese representatives in the Cabinet should it happen will not pose major problems to the government or Chinese community, an academician said today. Selangor DAP chief Teresa Kok said her party is standing firm with its decision to seek four seats in the Selangor state executive council, and hinted that all four nominees are Chinese, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Tan Sri Wong Foon Meng (UPDATED with Chinese Translation)

Sunday, 19 May 2013 Super Admin

Can you see that long before the 2008/2013 Tsunami, the Malays and Chinese of Kuala Terengganu already set aside their racial/political differences and supported the candidate rather than the race or party? The Chinese supported and worked/campaigned for an Islamist from PAS while the Malays supported and worked/campaigned for a ‘kafir’ from MCA.

Shaping the mind of the Malay

Saturday, 18 May 2013 Super Admin

You can see the Malay swing in 1946. Then they swung back and took another swing in 1959. Then they swung back and took another swing in 1969. Then they swung back and took another swing in 1990. Then there was another swing in 1999 after swinging back in 1995 (and then swung back in 2004). In 2008, we saw another swing and a slight swing back this time around in 2013. Will the Malay ‘pattern’ prove true and will we see yet a bigger and maybe a ‘terminal swing’ (for Barisan Nasional, that is) in the 2018 general election?

Zahid Hamidi should be asked to resign (UPDATED with Chinese Translation)

Friday, 17 May 2013 Super Admin

So, yes, we too in the UK were not happy with the system. And we ‘sold out’ the ruling party and ‘toppled’ the government because we were not happy with the system. But no one told us if we are not happy with the system then we can get out of Britain and go live in another country. If they had done that they would have been crucified. They would have been hung upside down from the nearest tree. We would have nailed their balls (or tits) to the wall.

Is beer halal or haram? (UPDATED with Chinese Translation)

Friday, 17 May 2013 Super Admin

Now, what I do not understand is: why emphasise ‘on a Chinese woman’? The Chinese scream that they are not racists. Yet they send me this very racist e-mail. This woman was humiliated or treated badly. That is wrong. Period! But to play up this issue as a racial issue is more wrong. And this is what Malaysians like to do. They like to emphasise that so-and-so who is Chinese or Indian is a victim of such-and-such.

Should I leave Islam if I am not happy?

Thursday, 16 May 2013 Super Admin

Okay, I am also not happy with some Muslims, even some Muftis for that matter. I think they are very intolerant, unreasonable and narrow-minded. What are you going to now tell me? You are going to tell me, “If you are not happy with some Muslims then you can leave Islam,” is it? Is this the way you think?

Citizenship, Bahasa, the Constitution, and the Police Force

Wednesday, 15 May 2013 Super Admin

The IGP, Ismail Omar, will be retiring tomorrow. Do you know that many senior police officers do not think highly of him? That is because he is considered too lembut (soft) and he allows the Prime Minister to tell him what to do rather than the other way around. They are actually breathing a sigh of relief that he is finally retiring after being at the helm of the Royal Malaysian Police Force for almost three years.
