(Bernama) - Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today reminded all Umno leaders and members to strengthen unity if they want to see Barisan Nasional (BN) win the coming 13th general election.

He said unity was an essential prerequisite to winning the elections for BN, and therefore, Umno leaders needed to be united and to strengthen their election machinery in facing the general election.

"I want Perak BN under the leadership of Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (Perak Menteri Besar) to continue strengthening the election machinery and to always go to the ground to regain the trust of the people."

Muhyidddin said this at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the three-storey Taiping Umno division building costing RM1 million. It is expected to be ready within a year.

He said Perak BN must ensure the party remained strong to recapture the states it lost in the last elections, besides performing better overall.

"The responsibility of being a BN or Umno leader is not easy now as times have changed and various quarters are making all kinds of demands.

"Thus, it is a very challenging responsibility but what is important is that we have initiated transformation and the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) had already started with economic and political transformation," he said.
Muhyiddin stressed that the people's confidence and trust in BN must be maintained to ensure its victory in future elections.

Also present at the ground-breaking ceremony were Zambry and Taiping Umno division chief, Datuk Ahmad Shalimin Ahmad Shafie.
