(Bernama) - MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has expressed regret that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife, Betty Chew Gek Cheng, have dragged his wife, Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin, into their personal affair.

"This is not fair. It is a personal matter, nothing to do with me and my wife. They (DAP) are only trying to divert the attention from him to other people, including me, and want to prolong the issue."

He said this at a media conference after a debate with Guan Eng on 'DAP and MCA: Whose Policies Benefit The Country More?' at the Sunway Pyramid convention centre today.

Dr Chua was asked to comment on a report in a Mandarin daily, quoting Chew as suggesting that the MCA president's wife help advise her husband to stop MCA leaders from abusing the state assembly by inappropriately raising her husband's alleged scandal.

Dr Chua countered that the question posed by Duyung assemblyman Datuk Gan Tian Loo to Chew (Kota Laksamana state assemblyman) during the Melaka State Assembly sitting last Monday was a normal question.

"He had merely asked whether the scandal about Guan Eng and his former employee, Ng Phaik Kheng, was true or not.

"If you don't have (the scandal), just stand up and deny it, it already ends there," he said.

Asked whether he would apologise to Chew for Gan's action, Dr Chua replied:

"Why should I apologise? The people who need to reply are him (Guan Eng) and Betty, not me. It's Guan Eng and Betty who are prolonging the issue, not us (MCA)," he said.
