Going into the 13th general election, Sarawak PKR will have its own independent manifesto based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Joseph Tawie, FMT

KUCHING: PKR central is confident that it will make a ‘major breakthrough’ in Sarawak in the 13th general election irrespective of prevailing rumors of a ‘weak leadership’ in the state.

Expressing his confidence, party deputy president Azmin Ali said the state level leaders were ‘focused’ and are ‘consolidating’ their strengths in urban and rural areas.

“Every division is now focusing on the election.

“Under the new state leadership, we are able to consolidate and strengthen our positions not only in urban areas, but in the rural areas as well.

“The support for PKR has been very forthcoming. I am confident that we will make a major breakthrough in the coming general election in the state,” he told Radio Free Sarawak.

He further dismissed claims that PKR viewed the state as a ‘fixed deposit’  and an appendage to West Malaysia.

“To us, treating Sarawak as fixed deposit is an insult to the people of Sarawak.

“Sarawak is important to us to guarantee our march towards Putrajaya. When this new Pakatan Rakyat Government is formed, we will make sure that the wealth of the state is not being pocketed by BN leaders as it is being practised now.

‘Sarawak is very important’

Earlier Azmin had launched the PKR election machinery and issued election materials to all the PKR divisions.

Some 13 million leaflets have been printed on 13 major issues.

Speaking to the media Azmin said: “PKR is the first political party that has launched its election machinery throughout the country.
