KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is at odds with her father regarding PKR deputy presidential hopeful Zaid Ibrahim.
Anwar Ibrahim, the PKR supremo, had warned party leaders not to engage Umno-linked media but Zaid had stressed that he would not hesitate to talk to all media organisations.
However, Nurul said she agreed with Zaid and she could understand where the former Umno law minister was coming from."I can rationalise Zaid's statement because we cannot espouse freedom of media and then take an extreme position with certain media," she told FMT.
However, Nurul stressed on the need for caution when speaking to the media, especially those owned or linked to Umno.
"What we need to do is exercise caution, practice constructive engagement and be very careful to ensure that our words are not manipulated. We cannot boycott a particular media no matter how unfair or bigoted they are," she said.
Zaid had recently given interviews to both Utusan Malaysia and New Straits Times, launching veiled attacks against, what some observers have dubbed as, the “Anwar-Azmin cartel”.
Azmin is Zaid's main rival in the contest for deputy presidency and touted as Anwar's preferred choice for the number two slot.
Zaid, who joined PKR last year, had consistently cried foul over alleged attempts to undermine his deputy presidency bid.
'Umno culture' in PKR
In the interview with Utusan's weekend edition, Zaid had lashed out at the party leadership, saying that “Umno culture” was emerging in PKR.

Look at the situation now. Taiwan applies one man one vote for both local and presidential elections. That's democracy. Saudara Anwar you must change if you want to be PM of Malaysia. Stop the rot adopted from your format party bangsat.

This is the crux of the argument, hunk guy. Wil there be a complete dissemination of information (from authorised Zaid/Nurul interviews with these bn papers) tothe public? Are there other media to put the checks and balances (eg other radios/papers) on one paper eg Utusan paper, to keep them honest so to speak.
I give you example. If the Utusan distort the interview or write-up to suit the bn, as it would be expected, how can you correct the journlistt/editorial errors to the same paper readers target who may be computer illerate? do you power of address in the the paper? what if the interview is taken out of context, so easily done by any one, can you address such poltical inteference journalism? You can go on and on in this area. You are opening a 20litre oil drum of grubby worms, not just a small 250ml Kaya can.
Tatking on Utusan from the perspective of a conviction "freedom of media is foolhardy, to say the least. It can easily jeopardize PR initiatives and momentum , from the mountain of bn paper ddistractions & diversions. Ask the very base question - why would bn mouthpiece help you, Nurul? Your advert money$$?? Nurul have to be absolute bonkers to equate this to freedom of media conviction. .

( If you criticise bn, call it as it is, would they publish it? If you bring up all the bad governance/MACC corruption, failed instiutions , etc , would they publish them? We are in exceptional times, Nurul and exceptional times demand a TIGHT SHIFT from PKR/PR.
Can anyone else in PKR/DAP/Pas talk to these Utusan papers, beside Zaid WITHOUT authorisation? If you allow this in the name of freedom-media, then the problems created for Pakatan would be insurmountable - PKR/DAP/PAS would be SPINNED to death and you become just fluffly feathery stuff in the end, Nurul. The chaos created form these uncontrolled interaction with bn mouthpieces would be like the star chaos constellation pattern. Do you HONESTLY think Utusan would give your PKR/PR to say what you really want to say? yes? In your dream, Nurul. This is why you are still rated as a junior in politics still.)
However, Nurul stressed on the need for caution when speaking to the media, especially those owned or linked to Umno.
(No amount of caution is going to stop these bn mouthpieces to spin you to death, Nurul. You muck around with the devil papers , they will make turn you upside down and make the devil of you/PKR/PR. There ARE NO FREE LUNCHES in the bn papers , Nurul )
"What we need to do is exercise caution, practice constructive engagement and be very careful to ensure that our words are not manipulated. We cannot boycott a particular media no matter how unfair or bigoted they are," she said.
(who is controlling the final editing., Nurul? You, your dad? Zaid? No, all the Editorial Eunochs EE and the Press Prostitutes PP, and the bad MM JJ re NUJ. How can these media possibly help you?? How naive you can be ! You are asking their heads to be french gullotined by a 1 metre wide blade weighing 1 ton if they are seen to be helping you. What objectives would you want to achieve with these papers, that you can't achieve by other means now. It is like bn people putting their arguments in MT today. No, they wont work.
For your naivety, some of your brownie points have vanished into thin air. )

2. it will take time, lots, for pkr members to fathom the significance and get used to this system.
3. even more importantly, it will take lots of time and publicity for the GENERAL PUBLIC to understand this.
4. so, it is important for all of us malaysians, supporters of BN as well as PR and all in-betweens, to see pkr's current elections in that context.
5. it is equally important to recognise that BN and supporters will instead exploit the present disarray to its advantage.
6. nurul is right in stating that one cannot fight for press freedom and then "take an extreme position with certain media". this is a most enlightened view, one like a breath of fresh air that must be pushed.
7. however, in not taking this extreme position (boycott?), will there be any semblance of quid pro quo? if not, if there's no mutual respect likely at all in seeking truth in public dissemination, is there any moral responsibility for Nurul/pkr to treat all media equally.
8. everyone recognises and accepts the fact that where control of media is concerned PR doesnt hold a candle to BN; and where the publicity skills, tricks and networks are concerned BN's (most honed from the 1948-60 Emergency days) are far superior.
9. this raises the big question: are you fighting fair with fair? never. your are always fighting foul with fair ... and that's plain stupid.
10. this comes back to the whole matter of pkr elections, and all the susah which boils down to fair and foul. DISREGARD all the msm reports, although correct. a truly democratic system is never established at a stroke; it will go through a turbulent process over time - how long depends PRECISELY on how quickly the people involve accept that in a democratic contest there must be winner and loser AND AT THE END they are all part of the process.
ps: this is not BN's concept ie losers are enemies. just witness the disgraceful setting up of federal officers at PR states to handle disbursments of federal funds due of the states, or the wang ehsan to trengganu. aside for the propriety what about the additional cost and waste of taxpayers' money?

If we believe in the freedom of expression then let it be. If that newspaper slander you, your party or whatsoever, take that paper to the cleaner.
Wise men should be careful when they open their mouth to speak. Talk rubbish and it will hound you back.
Let not PR suppress the freedom of speech and expression or boycott/ban a paper that doesn't agree with its ideology. That's suicide.
