(Malaysian Mirror) - The World Bank says that Malaysia must introduce massive reforms if it wants to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2020. "To reach the 2020 developed status, the World Bank is proposing a four-pillar strategy," Mr Vikram Nehru, chief economist for East Asia and the Pacific, said.

Improve workforce

"Malaysia must specialise the economy further, improve the skills of its workforce, make growth more inclusive and strengthen public finances," Nehru said.

The World Bank said Malaysia's economy will shrink 2.3 per cent this year but rebound to a 4.1 per cent expansion in 2010.

Mr Nehru, quoted by the Straits Times, said that Malaysia was on track to grow between 5.6 to 5.9 per cent in 2011 and 2012.

The report also said the country faced the challenge of shifting from an upper-middle economy to a high-income economy.

Well its going to be 2010 very soon. In 2020 I will be 50! I still remember back in the day when vision 2020 was so far into the future where I know my life will be a success.

Half way there, and thanks to the NEP, thanks to a govt that marginalises minorities. thanks to public servants that treat ppl based on their race, thanks to financial institutions that are out to scalp the lay man... I'm still dreaming of my vision 2020 ... ah i must still thank god for my 2020 eyesight.

You are thinking abut the present. PM was thinking about the very near future. You must understand he thinks about the country's future often - it is part of his job.

Every educated person in Malaysia also know abou this. Even the MPs also know about this. Until and unless, the politicians start to work for the country instead of pocketing for themselves, this will be an oasis vision. The road to 2020 a smokescreen for selfish gains?

Maybe Mr.Vikram Nehru wasn’t aware that true reform can only be achieved in Malaysia with the ousting of the BN government which is the main cause to the nation regression.
