For PKR to survive and for Pakatan Rakyat to stay relevant, they need a leader who is acceptable to the royal houses and who can command the respect of all Malaysians.
There’s a practical side also as to why Tengku Razaleigh is the ultimate playmaker for the Pakatan people if the bigger picture is to oust Umno and the BN government. The bigger picture, I repeat once more, is to secure the interest of the country, not to secure the interest of one Anwar Ibrahim.
Mohd Ariff Sabri Aziz, Free Malaysia Today
What is Umno’s latest weapon now? It’s the cultivation of the royal houses in the country. If PKR isn’t blind, they will see where the HRH Sultan of Selangor is going with his majesty’s overt political tones.
Umno is now working overtime to drum in this fallacious idea that if others come into power the very future of the royal houses, the symbol of Malay existence, will be wiped out.
How can Pakatan neutralise this powerful move which is also a powerful idea?
By having someone from the royal line to talk to the rulers. Who can talk to the rulers on equal terms other than Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li)?
He’s a royalty himself and commands respect and deference among the royal houses.
Tengku Razaleigh will represent the second coming of a Tengku Abdul Rahman figure but this time, putting Malaysia on the right footing.
Pakatan must win over fence-sitters
It’s for better and participative democracy, the rule of law, and disciplined and better governance.
Why Tengku Razaleigh? Because it’s important for the Pakatan to gain the allegiance and support of the 20 percent fence-sitter voters.
This section of the public has a different psychology. They want to know who the next prime minister is.
Is the next premier going to be more acceptable than the present one?
They want certainty and some confidence in the person. That person must have substance, experience, standing and respect all around.
Furthermore, the fence-sitters will demand to see some clarity.

Pakatan just needs a little bit more to cross the line to be the winner and I believe Ku Li can take them there.

TRH cannot be compared to Deng. All we hear are people claiming that he'd make a good 'floating bridge'. Never put one's hope on a floating bridge. It is useful only for hopping amphibians...

This is going to be the GE of new blood. And there had better be some costly legal implications imposed on politicians for jumping sides.

I agree completely that if we compare the overall characters and attributes of TR and Anwar, including their past performances as UMNO/BN ministers, TR is far ahead of Anwar as the preferred next PM of Malaysia. However, on the matter of the "practical side" alluded to in using Tengku Razaleigh as the "ultimate play-maker for Pakatan Rakyat", it appears to me that Mohd Ariff has his own unique understanding of the word "practical", one which totally escapes my comprehension.
How can TR fit into any "practical strategy" to oust UMNO and the BN government when TR insists on remaining a steadfast UMNO member? More amazingly, his continuing steadfast loyalty for UMNO is despite the fact that he could not even get a seconder when he announced his candidacy for the UMNO President's post!
Perhaps Mohd Ariff knows something about TR's as yet unknown and unannounced imminent plan to leave UMNO? Maybe even defect to PR? After all, Mohd Ariff, while still being referred to as a "former Umno state assemblyman", and not yet as a "former UMNO member", keeps writing about how to "oust Umno and the BN government."

The way I see it, anyone from PKR - Azmin, Nurul Izzah, Wan Azizah etc - are interested parties. For justice to be SEEN to be done, we need a neutral party to be the PM. While a royal pardon might free DSAI, it won't cleanse his name officially. The new PM needs to call for some sort of retrial, with commonwealth judges preciding.
In such a scenario, TR seems to be the best man since Hadi Awang or Nik Aziz might not be acceptable to the non-Muslims and also can be accused of being interested parties.
