Wong Choon Mei, Harakahdaily

Pakatan Rakyat and civil society leaders have expressed concern at the formation of the rightist Malay NGO Consultative Council or MPM, predicting that greater polarization and civil unrest may lie ahead as a weakened Prime Minister Najib Razak resorted to sinister and dangerous means to cling to power.

“Of course, MPM is the brainchild of Umno. The party cannot go beyond a certain line or the BN will lose the non-Malay votes," Mujahid Yusof Rawa, head of PAS's national unity committee, told Harakahdaily.

"
It also does not want to be seen as an ultra party, so Najib and (former premier) Mahathir Mohamad are using the Malay NGOs to ply racist issues and get the community behind them. It is a last-ditch effort to salvage the political ground they lost from blunders like the Perak crisis, Anwar's trial and oil royalty issues in Kelantan and Terengganu."

Two-faced hypocrisy

Indeed, moderate Malaysians have been alarmed at the recent mushrooming of Malay rights groups, spouting aggressive and racist rhetoric that top Umno leaders have rushed to embrace rather than condemn.

Nor has there been any squeak of protest from the traditionally docile MCA, MIC and Gerakan – the main non-Malay components in the Umno-dominated BN. In fact, the MCA and MIC have already voiced support for the BN to open its doors to these ultra groups. Their rationale: anything goes as long as the BN retains the federal government in the next general election!

“It is sad to see not just Umno but also the MCA, MIC and Gerakan fall to such depths. How can they ever build a better future for Malaysia? How can they protect their respective communities when their leaders are more concerned about preserving their own jobs,” PKR strategic director Tian Chua told Harakahdaily.

“This is another two-faced move by Najib and his cohorts. He wants to show he is a multi-racial PM in line with his 1Malaysia slogan. Yet at the same time, he wants to be seen as a hero to the Malays. But most Malays are not that racist, they will see through this ruse,” said Mujahid.

Dangerous consequences

On Saturday, 76 Malay NGOs joined forces to form a consultative council to act as a shield against those who tried to question Malay rights and privileges, the position of Islam and the institution of the Malay rulers.

Their spokesman Ibrahim Ali also warned the MPM would hold a round-table forum on March 7 to “discuss” the economic direction of the Malays ahead of Najib’s announcement of a new economic model for the nation.

“Firstly, Pakatan respects the right of anyone that wishes to group together so long as it is within the law. But the thing with MPM and Ibrahim Ali is, what exactly do they mean by protecting Malay rights?” asked Mujahid.

“Is it Malay rights at the expense of the other communities? Is it the protection of Malay rights at the expense of national peace and unity? Is it dividing the races even further?”

True colors revealed

Indeed, sadly for Malaysia, Mujahid and Tian may have hit the nail on the head.

During its 52-year rule, Umno has not hesitated to play the racial card, even though it cost the MCA, MIC and Gerakan the non-Malay votes. For Umno to now give way to extremist groups like Perkasa and MPM underscore the tough new battle lines it is willing to draw just to keep the Pakatan at bay.

“Malaysians must stay clear-headed. Don’t be confused or be frightened by all the threats of violent racial reaction from these hot-heads," said Mujahid.

"Umno and their partners MCA, MIC and Gerakan have now shown their true colors. Remember, we must reject anything that is harmful for the nation. Support only those who can take the country forward and be in sync with the rest of the developed world."

Better My,
You are absolutely right abt your concern for the chinese community if for some freaky, unfortunate fate of Bodohland that Umno returns to power in GE13. The Chinese shld move their cash out! I advise you people, the moment you turn 55, or two weeks before then, apply to withdraw all your EPF money. Otherwise you will live to regret your decision if you dilly-dally. I have an ex-colleague, chinese fcukhead, proudly tells me, consistently every GE, he will vote BN for parlimentary. I hope he gets screwed of all his $$$ when even his kids can't smell the cash when he drops dead tonight.

One thing the govt chooses to ignore is this: if the chinese were to move their factories to Vietnam or elsewhere, a lot of Malays lose their jobs too. I see a lot of S & M Industries hiring Malays by the hundreds & thousands. My chinese employer alone hires more than one thousand Malays!

This Malay NGO Consultative Council is totally runs contrary to 1Malaysia concept. All of you can see now, jibby says one thing, thrives on its rhetoric while bodoh citizens lapped up his words like ice-cream. And then behind the scenes, he struck a different note which angers the non-Malays. I think he is beyond bodoh sombong. His timing sucks. His MNCC shld be brought on board if he wins GE13, not before. Putting the cart before the horse. 1Stupid.

Well..we have another 76 joining the endangered species of UMNO. They need to be categorised as the protected species under the homo sapiens moolayuiens group. ..We have to accept the fact that they need to be cured from the leeching syndrom which is now spreading fast. Until we can get this cure we have to leave them under suspended animation...and deep freeze our 1 Malaise...concept...

If UMNO mob is returned to another term with the help of these extreme Malay NGOs/Perkasa and not from the much weakened bordering useless MCA/MIC in getting votes to the bad muslim mob, I see dangerous times ahead for most of the chinese.

If I were the UMNO and nasty with ears only to the Malay extremist NGOs I would drive the stake into the hearts of all chinese interest in Malaysia. The chinese fortune will further spiral downwards fast. Life as we know it now in the chinese world in Malaysia will get worse.

The Malay masses will suffer as well as the pie gets smaller with us going to the dogs in the economy and more welfare "governent jobs" , politcal buy-outs, corruption become unsustainable.

Thre is no turning back the clock to MCA, corrupt but of abit of use to the chinese before.

Tell all chinese. NO MORE sitting on the fences and F excuses.
Ask what you can do for the opposition camp today. Donate, attend ceramahs/fund raising, walk the talk.

"we dont want BN but we not sure PKR. should we give a new party the chances? election every 5 years is too long"

We are not sure of PKR??? you say? What crap are you talking about?
A few days ago you said that we have to look at the bigger issues in Plan A, not plan B - smaller issues. I agreed with you.

The bad muslim mob has been given 30-40 years to solve the big issues. Are you in a dream that you can't see what is happening out there now?

Any attempts by the PKR is better than the present mob, It may not be smooth saiing but surely it will be right path for glory. If you are still in love with the UMNO mob and want to go to bed with them, then vote for them in the election after the next one.

Don't give me the shits of not giving the PR a chance to govern - 5 years is too long crap. 30-40 years is not long enough?

We have stopped listening to you. For Malaysia.

So this is the way of 1Malaysia. All bull shit talk and slogan yelling, visiting the new villages, and a CM playing mahjong in his attempts to get close to the Chinese. And the PM visiting Batu Caves. But on the other hand he is tolerating all these Perkasa and Malay NGOs. The people are not blind and stupid. We can see through the charade.

It is all clear now that the 1Malaysia is only for show. There are completely different agenda behind the scene.

If Najib is sincere about 1Malaysia, he must use whatever within his power to "kill" racial politic. He has to ban racial parties. We need to be colour blind moving forward.

This is a classic case of Najib running with the hare and hunting with the wolves. He will soon learn that it will not work that way. He asks to be a given a chance and says nothing to the racists. What kind of an arsine leader is that?
