(The Sun) KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 21, 2010) : The government is expected to announce a price increase of 10sen a litre for RON95 petrol and diesel when the new fuel price mechanism is revealed in mid-March, Sin Chew Daily reported today.
The price of RON97 will also be increased but there is no decision yet on the quantum.
RON95 is currently retailed at RM1.80 a litre, RON97 and diesel at RM2.05 and RM1.70 a litre respectively.
Finance Ministry sources said the government has decided to raise fuel prices as it cannot provide more subsidy needed to maintain fuel prices at current levels following a spike in global crude oil prices.
The government believes an increase of 10sen a litre is acceptable to the public.
The sources also told the daily the government has yet to come up with a fuel price mechanism that is acceptable to all quarters, and as a result it may put off or may even be forced to abandon some new measures that are already in the pipeline.
“Plans were afoot for the registration of vehicle owners and their MyKad through Maybank and petrol kiosks to begin in April under the proposed ‘one vehicle owner, one subsidy’ fuel subsidy mechanism. It looks like the plan may not take off.”
The sources said the cap on selling 20 litres of petrol to foreign cars near Malaysian borders will continue to be implemented.
Meanwhile, Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hashim Othman believes that foreign car owners will pay the market price when the new fuel price mechanism is introduced next month.
He said the government’s main intention is to provide subsidy to those who qualify for it, to protect the interest of the lower and middle-income groups as well as save on expenditures.

TNB intends to raise electricity rates in March - any news on this? You know what is going to happen? Many families with many kids are going to suffer. It's a pity bcos some of these people had been supporting BN blindly for decades. It's called "You Asked For It".

He knows his government will become bankrupt when oil money runs out.
Don't you all see the many measures that he has already or is gradually putting into place to generate revenue for his government?
No government can spend money like the BN government has been doing for the last 53 years and expect to continue doing so forever.
I personally am watching how najib plan to tackle & handle the single biggest budget eater in his government..i.e.rampart, gross, and totally destructive CORRUPTION!
If najib can get a handle on and to control the corruption situation, then he is worthy of being the PM of this country Malaysia.

But the more interesting question is Why in the world did we have to get subsidized at all in the first place? Didn't exporting petroleum make enough profits? Plus the government charges petroleum companies for operating in Malaysia So money were channeled in everywhere So the petrol price locally should be low even without subsidies... Why need to subsidize so much? Oh by the way How much does that subsidies really is being used to subsidize petrol price?
Now for the tongue twister:
"we are thus subsidizing our own subsidies supposedly subsidized by the government. But the subsidy never really worked as a subsidy as we are still paying so much of the subsidy to subsidize our own subsidies. Yet now they are saying we cannot get as much of the subsidy we subsidized. And we have to subsidize more by paying higher price on top of the subsidies we pay to subsidize ourselves."

The Chinese Kopitiam will probably increase their cup of coffee by 10cents. However, the Mamaks will say that the increase in both their Coca Cola / soft drinks and Roti Canai by 20cents is more acceptable!
When enquired, they'll shake their heads and say, "That's is petrol / diesel. Ours is food and drinks."
When met, my Malay / Muslim friends and I will normally go to a Mamak coffee shop because Malay food stalls / outlets are being "pushed" out by these Mamaks. What does the Spider Black Widow of Penang got to say on this price increase?
Every ordinary Malaysian regardless of race or religion will definitely suffer more from this so-called acceptable increase in fuel!

How much those UMNO elites are abusing till every rakyat has to suffer ? Prices of milk, foods and basic stuffs had gone up "silently" on last October - December. Don't try to tell rakyat that it wont affect our meal prices and warn restaurants/warungs cannot raise prices ! Wayang bodoh !

They are facing issues with royalty claims by Kelantan, and they know they'll loose that financial source for "pocket money". Not only that, I have a feeling that they have also used up the reservoir for their corrupt acts. Now they try to ge money from us rakyat to top that up.
Up to now, I still could not understand why they continue to claim that they paid subsidy to a product that We produced and exports. Compared to other petroleum exporting countries, we seems to be paying more than them. Not only that, I also heard that they impose laws to other petrol companies operating in Malaysia, meaning they get money everywhere.
So Why are we paying more, and our price keep increasing. What is the logic and the reasoning behind the price hike?

'....cannot provide more subsidy needed to maintain fuel prices at current levels following a spike in global crude oil prices.'
Oooiiii s-holes, price of fuel should have a 10cent reduction instead of an increase because we EXPORT oil. We gain when the price of crude goes up, no?
Pharkers !
