KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants bloggers to stop speculating and spreading rumours on the Internet as this is another cause of the unsettled political situation in the country.

"I want to tell the blogs to stop all these as they are also responsible for what has happened. The best thing they could do is to stop," he told reporters after holding several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 6th D-8 Heads of Government Summit here Monday.

The summit proper of the eight Developing Islamic Nations (D-8) is scheduled to begin in the federal capital Tuesday.

The prime minister was commenting on the current political situation in the country, which seemed unsettled since the last general election in March.

Yesterday Abdullah said he was aware that the people were fed up with the political bickering that is going on in the country and pledged to give priority to the needs of the people.

"Slandering has become more rampant. One no longer cares whether the accusations are true or otherwise," Abdullah told Bernama Sunday.

He said this in reaction to a front page report by an English language daily on Sunday which highlighted the reaction of the people and community leaders over the political exchanges in the past few months.

"Whatever the truth, the truth will come out...don't worry about it," Abdullah said Monday.

Asked how the government intended to stop these rumours and allegations on the Internet, he said :" When the truth comes out, all these will stop, we will make sure of that.

It has been said many times before, but let it be said again: the reason why blogs are so immensely popular is because people want to read something other than the newspapers which have lost all their credibility. The apparent constant news blackout in the main media on important issues has left the people with no other option but to go to the blogs. More and more people have stopped subscribing to newspapers. It is a blooming waste of money and time.

That man knows these things. He knows that if the main media could operate freely as a purveyor of uncensored news and if it was allowed to offer objective criticism without fear of punishment, a large number of the people would prefer to get their news from these sources. So everytime he whines about the blogs and about bloggers, he knows just how pathetic he sounds.

The main media has no credibility.

Ohh dear ... Abdullah .... Don't you know bloggers are also Malaysian citizens?

Sometimes you can't blame Malaysians for believing and taking rumours into account.. I mean there are so many flip flops..

Somebody said the fuel price is not going to hike, but immediately it hiked. Somebody said the Election date will not be announced tomorrow, but tomorrow comes the date is announced. Somebody said he is not going to get married, instantly he got married.

And... people question that Somebody to clarify the rumours. The Somebody said the rumour is untrue, but instantly turned out to be true contrary to what Somebody said. So, that is why, Malaysians believe in rumours. Malaysians are very cooperative sometimes.

They think some rumours may become true, so they spread and share it with their friends in order to confirm the validity because the Somebody which is supposed to clarify the truth often flip flops ( Cakap tak Serupa Bikin ).

Do you get what I mean , dear Pak Lah? Do you know who I am talking about? Goodness gracious
