I’m confused. All this while I was told by the usual rabid fanboys/girls of Pakatan Rakyat that the Sodomy II case was a conspiracy by the Barisan Nasional-led government, that somehow they managed to plant Anwar Ibrahim’s semen into Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s anus or something along that line.

I know that many readers of Malaysia Today are young Malaysians, probably born after Merdeka or around that time. This means you do not know what happened in the 1940s and 1950s and how a formula for peaceful coexistence was hammered out between the Malays and the non-Malays. Hence it is good we reflect on the history of our country. And if we can understand and honour the spirit of the Merdeka Social Contract, then a lot of conflict can be avoided.

So many number ‘1’s have been registered to Chinese business tycoons, Malay politicians, etc., and none of them bid or paid for the number. They all got the number free of charge. And all they had to do was to make a phone call.
