"There were deflection as much as 3" or more on all the 3 floors. Certain crucial reinforcement were apparently not in the correct position resulting in very short lever-arm and hence structurally inadequate. With age and the effect of creeps, the deflection can only get worst. The 3 floors were reported to be in a "plastic" stage, and it was declared unsafe."

The owner (Suria Group) of 7, 8 and 9th Floor (staffs) heard cracking sounds inside the building and got worried. Suria then engaged a reg. Professional Engineer Ir. Tsen to carry out an investigation and found (declared) the 3 floors unsafe. This Eng. presented his report to a specially called High Risk Committee by DBKK and below are the confidential minutes.

Yesterday, Joint professional Bodies (IEM, ACEM, SEA and PAM with the support of SLA 'Sabah Law Asso.' called a meeting and have writen a joint letter (signed by 3 professional bodies) addressed to the Mayor of DBKK to express their concern on this report. They are asking the Mayor to inform all other unit owners of Komplex Karamunsing Block C and to carry out a necessary structural check for the whole 3 Blocks which was and is still under massive Extensions and Renovations which caused many public concerns not only to its structural integrity but FIRE safety which even the Bomba Sabah director has expressed concern during his few professional dialogues with professional bodies at Bomba HQ KK. His comments were even quoted in www.pamsabah.com web site.

The big question here is: Who approved the ongoing massive renovation and extension? Why was it approved? Datuk Mayor, the rumors going around about the few lots given to you explains the ongoing renovations without prior approval from DBKK? Is it true?

Here in Sabah, there's a on-going "practice" that a handful of Consulting Engineers have certain "understanding" with some Contractors!
One Ir WD Lee even demanded a Contractor friend of mine to use HUME products! NEVER stated Or Equivalent!
Some claimed that their Fees charged against the Developers were too low. As low as 2% and therefore they have to 'negotiate' with the Contractors... Result: Specifications were compromise!
Sometimes, they even demand for donations as if the Contractors owe them a living!
Otherwise they would not recommend the Letter of Award to the potential Contractor for a Project.... Disgusting! Know How is not important. Know Who becomes the order of the day!
Another issue is that some Project Consultants have passed the age of 65 and yet are not giving way to the younger generation. Want to bring more money into their graves or what???

Its funny there is no mention about it in any local papers in Sabah?? and how come the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu keeping quiet about it?

He must be taking something under the table as he let this happened when he is still in charge. If anyone died, it is the "politically appointed" Mayor of Kota Kinabalu Iliyas and also the CM who have blood in their hands.

The Mayor of Kota Kinabalu obviously not looking after the public interest.

Imagine how many people will die if the building collapse during the weekends or public holiday and its full of people..

aiyooo.. Mayor, you need to evacuate them fast ! BTW why did you allow the non-stop renovation and extension to the original structure? That building is getting fatter and fatter, heavier and heavier each day. Remember Sampoong Department store in Korea? Please listen to the experts before it is too late.
