KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 — The prime minister’s aide who had allegedly ordered the removal of Christian symbols during a Christmas gathering last year came out today to express her “heartfelt regret” over the incident.

Datuk Hardev Kaur, who is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Special Officer, however denied reports that she had issued instructions to remove the symbols from the entire venue or warned the organisers against airing Christmas carols or reciting from the scriptures during the function.

Instead, Hardev claimed she had merely requested for a rostrum to be free from such material.

“I did not give any instruction whatsoever to remove crosses or crucifixes from the church or the vicinity of the function.

“There was also no directive not to sing carols at the function,” she wrote in a statement today.

She pointed out that she had suggested that guests be entertained by carollers while waiting for the prime minister’s arrival as the latter’s schedule for the day had been packed.

“At no time did I instruct that carols should not be sung or that scriptures should not be read at the function. There was in fact a choral presentation and grace was said,” she said.

Hardev explained that her only request to the organisers was in the form of a “suggestion” that it would be preferable if the rostrum from which Najib would deliver his speech be free of any religious symbol.

“I had made it clear that it was a request and not an instruction.

“In fact, there was no cross or any religious symbol at the venue of the tea party, the car park near the Archbishop’s residence,” she said.

She stressed that the request had been made out of “good intention”, on her own initiative and had not been on the instruction of the prime minister.

“If my request has led to any misinterpretation and misunderstanding, I express my heartfelt regret,” she concluded.

The Malaysian Insider reported last week that the premier’s aide had issued a list of instructions to Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam and organisers of the Christmas tea-party a fortnight ago, including ordering the removal of Christian symbols from the venue.

The instruction was alleged to have been made to facilitate the prime minister’s presence at the function.

The issue caused uproar among the Christian community, who expressed their disappointment with the Najib administration for its alleged display of religious intolerance.

Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers also waded into the fray and called on the prime minister to issue an apology to the community.

In the prime minister’s silence, some anger was later directed at the archbishop himself as many in the community questioned if the leader had indeed compromised his principles and complied with the instruction.

Datuk Hardev Kaur?...a non-malay non-muslim? I will first apologise if anything I say if offending..but Malaysians do yourself a favour, anything said is directed as an expression primarily to human beings.

What is it with people to speak witout first thinking???? Dr Hardev Kaur are you saying in 'good intention' being a personal aide of the PM,you would first and foremost think to protect his interest selfishly at the expense of the citizens feelings when this need to protect has nothing to do with compromising hiswell being??? Remember you still need our votes to keep your comfy job..

So will you then always find it necessary to ensure the venue where the PM is attending be free of anything that isn't Islamic..Then don't just stop at Christian symbols, why not shut down the Genting Highlands's Casino and every other establishment that isn't in accordance to the PM faith?? And try extending your so called ' good intention ' on foreign trips..see what you get? Make sure you tell all non-muslim staff not to wear or keep in their possession any religous symbols when around the PM..

You have failed yourself as a person in differentiating the way of life and that of teaching of religion..If you understood teachings of any religion, you would have been filled with good spiritual attitude to expresse and practise the essence of religion..

Err..Datuk Hardev think it best you not be the limelight in the PM's life not with his lovely wife being the First lady and all..So keep a low profile,do some reading, gain some knowledge before making any decisions that stirs the shit in the pot nationwide..

It took long enough for Hardev to 'attempt to clear the issue'. I concur with Fart Fart Wah, she was made to take the fall...remember the missing engines; Kugan's horrific murder??

Are you the fall guy for another " madwoman" inside the PM's department???Remember the madwoman who SMSed the fatwa issuing Mufti in IPOH and then the church got surrounded. She was made the fallguy for the stupid behaviour of a brain damaged Mufti. The case got swept under the carpet. NO apologies. No court case for inciting. It was a good thing that the Catholics did not react to this "they forgave"Then some 2 mad journalits fellows went into a church and desecrated their communion bread..and again it became very very difficult for then to apologize until forced to. No show cause letter as to why the magazine should not be shut down. The catholics "forgave" And the botak fellow Home Minister claimed he had a metaphysical revelation from Allah that the word Allah can only be used by Muslims. And every supposed learned cock-eyed UMNO Islamic scholar went up in arms and said the same. Not noting that even their prophet during his times never forbade this. Suddenly UMNO had scholars even more learned than those in the middle-east who never even batted an eye on this issue.
After all the hoo and ha another Minister( self proclaimed scholar) said that it can only be used in East Malaysia by Christians. So the Christians in Peninsula cannot. Sometimes when we think of how UMNO
twists and lies it looks like UMNO teaches Muslims to lie in peniNsula Malaysia.

Sorry??? Sorry????

Well, sorry is not enough because the joy of the occasion has been torn apart as a result of your stupid behaviour and your idiotic behaviour!

Is it okay to slap you on your face everytime someone sees you and then immediately apologise by saying sorry for slapping you? Is it okay if everyone does it over and over again but apologise immediately after each and every slap??? Is that okay by you?

If it is not okay, then, your sorry is not acceptable.

Stupid, idiotic candidates must never be allowed to hold position of authority...lest, they have to say sorry time and again over similar incidents!

it is the church rostrum afterall.
if a pm so chooses to grace a church occasion, might it not be gracious to accept what's already regular practice than to `suggest' the rostrum should be redressed for the occasion?
let's ask the pm what he thinks should be right in his sight.

Let's be magnanimous!!
WE now have Hardev's official version and unless the Archbishop's aides involves openly disputes her version, let's move on.
I can't remember if any of the previous PM's had graced a Christmas gathering before but it warms the heart that Najib had gone to the Vesak do at Brichfields, the Thaipusam do at BatuCaves and this as well.

Why is it so difficult for Hardev Kaur to show the public what was written on her request to the Archbishop or is it just a telephone call to make the request to the Archbishop where she couldnt prove herself??

Is she bounded by the OSA not to reveal that request.

In order to dispel any rumours of the people's misconception or doubts, just show that what she claimed here is the truth, nothing but the truth and not just with her one-sided explanation as talking is cheap!!!

Najib's true intentions are quite well known now. 1Malaysia is a sham to deceive Malaysians. Secretly, which now has come to light, he says that Malays must unite because non-Malays are demanding too much. Obviously, Najib has no intention of having equality for all Malaysians. I am yet to hear any view expressed by MCA, MIC, Gerakan or other non-Malay parties in BN!
