Tan Sri Ismail Omar named IGP from Sept 13

Ismail Omar

(The Star) KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar will succeed Tan Sri Musa Hassan as the IGP on Sept 13.

The new deputy IGP will be Datuk Hussin Ismail, who is now the Director of Internal Security and Public Order.

Ismail, was born on May 17, 1953, in Kulim, Kedah, and joined the police force as an inspector in 1971.

He holds a law degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Ismail was an investigating officer at the Seremban police headquarters in 1972 before he was transferred to the Ipoh police contingent in 1977.

In 1983, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police and posted to the Federal police headquarters as one of the officers in-charge in disciplinary investigations.

He was made the prosecuting officer in Ipoh in 1994 before being promoted as Seberang Prai Tengah OCPD in 1996.

In 1999 he was promoted to ranks of Asst Commissioner of Police and was made head of the CID Legal/Prosecution Affairs in Bukit Aman.

He then moved up the ranks and was made assistant CID director in 2004 with the rank of Senior Asst Comm (11).

His hard work and perseverance in carrying out his duties diligently saw him being promoted as the deputy director of the Narcotics Crimes Investigations Department in 2005 with the rank of Senior Asst Comm(1).

Again Ismail proved he could handle the job and in 2005 he was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police and was tasked to head the Selangor police contingent as In 2006 Ismail was promoted and made director of management with the rank of Commissioner.

Hardly a year later he was appointed as deputy Inspector General of Police.

Hi all, remember when the Musang was appointed, almost everyone sang praises for this wolf-in-sheep-skin pig. They said he was clean, honest, and efficient. MY BIG FOOT!! Now everyone knows that we have been cheated, through and through. So, I am still very weary of this Ismail guy -- will he be a wolf or an angel? Or worst, will he be eaten alive by UMNO gangsters.

This in-coming haprak was "Deputy Director of the Narcotics Crimes Investigations Department in 2005 with the rank of Senior Asst Comm(1)" which means he oversaw that big blunder of a case in KL HIgh Court where RM$5 million worth of evidence went missing and suffice to say, defendant walked.

Also, remember the breakout in the Immigration holding facility in Sepang where a Taiwanese kingpin literally walked out the front door and driven off in the dead of night just like that !

Going by recent record, it figures the two incidents above should rightly be a blemish that cause heads to roll but in PDRM, such notoriety is instead 'grounds' for promotion ala 'tilam' man *Musa Hasan.
* You can bask in retirement but that doesn't mean you are safe from prosecution when we rid ourselves from UMNO's misrule.

Needless to say, a good cop would never aspire to the highest office as long as UMNO persist to rein and have PDRM by its balls. Tragic.

i'm sceptical cos they say the same (good man) of all previous igps from that tun's time. but yes, let's give him the chance to prove himself. but let's continue to ask for implementation of measures in the royal commission on the police. that's the crux. get that done and we may begin to expect a real police force that looks after the welfare of the public instead of leeching on it.
