KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — Former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin maintained today that non-Muslims can enter a mosque or surau, while pointing out that political parties using religion to cause racial strife are the actual culprits smearing the name of Islam.

Amid a row over DAP Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching’s recent visit to a surau, Asri said today that non-Muslims could enter a mosque as long as they did not besmirch the sanctity of the house of worship.

“Non-Muslims can enter the mosque if it is done with the right purpose to know Islam, understand or study it,” said Asri in a statement today.

“That is the same with Muslims, with the condition that they do not spoil the sanctity of the mosque. This is because during Nabi Muhammad’s time, non-Muslims entered the mosque to meet him,” added Asri, who is seen as a progressive scholar.

He pointed out, however, that while he had been reported to be defending Teo the influential scholar said he did not know what actually happened at the surau.

PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat has, however, come out to defend Teo amid a barrage of criticisms against her from Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

Nik Aziz said that her actions did not contravene Islamic law and was the best way to get to know Muslims better.

Asri stressed today that non-Muslims could enter the mosque or surau with good intentions but not for political purposes.

“Non-Muslims and even Muslims cannot use the mosque for party or personal politics,” he said.

Teo has said that her visit to the surau was not politically motivated.

The Muslim scholar also said that Islamic issues needed to be evaluated with well-founded arguments.

“Using the scales of party politics to evaluate religious issues can spoil the purity of this religion. Islam is built on rational and well-founded debate, while party politics is usually built on perceptions and prejudice,” added Asri.

The popular Muslim preacher stressed that opinions and views on Islam should be based on facts.

Two days ago, Asri said that Teo’s action of entering the inner sanctum of the surau was not against Islamic teachings.

To be united , we must respect all race and religions. One way is to learn about other's faith. That is to sit with them and hear what they are hearing. Only by hearing and reading can we know the truth . The Muslims must read and mixed with other faiths and learn about them before believing that Islam is right for them. How can one be correct if you dont really know what is wrong? From hearing what our teachers told us? What if our teachers lied to us or maybe ignorant? To know one side of the facts is not truth. Dont be deceived but open your eyes and ask, seek and knock at every opportunities. And you shall received the answer, found the way and the doors will be opened to you. Dont be afraid . ask and seek the truth.

Desecrate? So all other Muslims who indulge in evil acts go to mosques and purify it by praying?

I have been to a mosque in Malacca, the oldest (?) mosque in the country and have prayed there...the Muslims there were polite, friendly and had no qualms about me praying there.

There are filthy Muslims (as with all other religions) who enter a place of worship and pray like they are devout devotees of the place of worship.. They steal, plunder, commit adultery and whatnot then go to the mosque and pray.

God is God, whatever name HE is called by, and HE is in ALL places of worship. HE is omnipresent.

This is what Freeloader Ibrahim Ali said,
“In America, Islamic preacher Malcolm X, who preached to Christians and entered their churches was shot dead but in Selangor an “unclean DAP politician” was dragged into the surau’s prayer room,” said Ibrahim.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Ibrahim Freeloader. . ., it is me again,

I just want to tell you how stupid you are. AlHaj Malik AlShabaz aka Malcolm X was shot not because he visited a church. He was shot because some extremist in the Nation of Islam thought he had gone “soft “with the white Americans. It was in fact the Muslims who shot him, and not the Christian. Right after he came back from his Haj pilgrimage in Makkah, he no longer took the staunch militant approach to fight for the rights for the black community. He had learnt something in Makkah. In a letter from Makkah he wrote , “I drank in the same glass, ate in the same plate, slept in the same rug with people whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white”!

Did you learn anything from your yearly trips to Makkah? I guess not. . ., that is the problem when you do pilgrimage with too much freeloader and rasuah money!

You talk as if you knew about Malcolm X. . ., in fact you knew nothing. When Malcolm X died, he died a true Muslim that has denounced racism! To him all man regardless of skin colour are equal. If Malcolm X was still alive, he would have told you people in Perkosa to go dig your own graves, bury yourselves alive and never walk on the surface of this earth again!

Next time you want to talk about Malcolm X, check those history books first. Don’t talk cock and don't talk nonsense from your filthy mouth!

By the way Mr. Freeloader, Malcolm X was not shot dead in a church he was shot in the ballroom of Audobon Hotel, New York. . .stupid!

This is the sort of reasoning or truth that we can understand and appreciate about the good teachings of Islam !

Not the ' controversial ' one, as preached and practiced by political ARMNO or PERKOSA Ali !

This is the right. call, a call shoudl be made by every good educated smart thinking muslim today. To say otherwise, is to position your very own religion to perpetual low depths of insecurity and weakness that wont attract more followers except the extremists.

Dont make a mountain out of a molehill of nothing. It a total waste of time. Under an open PR government with so many things to do to improve on the economy and the nation, the free press should consign these kind of molehill news items, like Perkasa on Teo, to 1 cm column newspaepr or screen space at some back pages, that few would read. They will die allow natural death.

Religion and politics must not mix.
Malaysia can be become the most envious muslim progressive country in the world, under PR government - a muslim country that is doing mostly all the right things, and all the rakyat, irrespective of their religious conviction, give very best to the nation. A model country for muslim world to emulate.

It has always been the practice of non Muslims to respect Islam and we try our best not to offend Islam as far as possible but it seems, it is always the munafik Muslims who besmirch the good name of Islam with their extremist and racial rhetoric all the time to stir up hatred amongst the citizens. Thank God we have good Muslims to put these munafik Muslims down.
