Read Sun Tzu (UPDATED with Chinese translation)

I am surprised that the opposition, in particular the Chinese leaders in the opposition, do not know this very basic and fundamental Art of War. I would have imagined they would have all read Sun Tzu by now. This is called the Principle of Subversion.

Two days ago, the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce organised a demonstration against the Pakatan Rakyat state government and burned an effigy of its Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng. It appears the protest was led by ‘opposition’ Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ali -- who won a seat in the last general election on a PAS ‘ticket’.

Yesterday, a police report was made against the Chamber for ‘inciting racial hatred’. The fact that PERKASA, meaning Ibrahim Ali, was behind the protest means it is definitely about race. PERKASA was created with only one objective in mind – to defend Malay rights and privileges and to uphold Malay Supremacy or Ketuanan Melayu.

So the Penang incident is undoubtedly a Malay-versus-Chinese affair.

Lim Guan Eng is Chinese and from DAP, a party perceived as ‘Chinese chauvinist’. And the effort the party has been making to erase its Chinese ‘face’ and to attract more non-Chinese, in particular Malays, into the party has thus far not been very successful. It is an uphill battle for DAP to clean up its image of being a ‘Chinese’ party, not that the party is not trying hard enough to do this. It is just that images are not an easy thing to create or change.

On the surface it is being made to look like this is about the Chinese being unfair to the Malays and that the Malays are merely bringing attention to this ‘injustice’. It is, after all, the business of PERKASA and the Malay Chamber of Commerce to look after Malay interests.

Are not all wars throughout history about race, religion and riches? Societies and nations go to war because of race, religion or domination. And domination could mean land, control over the oil business, trade supremacy, and whatnot. Wars are never about upholding justice or about doing the right thing. It is always about power -- power over race, religion, land, trade, natural resources, and all those things material.

There is no such thing as religious wars. Religion is the excuse to go to war. It gives legitimacy to the cause. Race or nationalities is also a non-starter. Political boundaries change through the ages. What was once the Greek, Roman or Ottoman Empires are today many countries. And what was once one empire are today many countries at war with one another.

So there is no reason to go to war. There are just excuses. And any excuse is good enough if what you really want to do is to go to war. You just need to create a good excuse, give it legitimacy, and call it a reason.

What is the beef against DAP, the Penang state government or Lim Guan Eng? Is it really about the unfair treatment the Malays are getting at the hands of the Chinese? Or is it something else altogether?

The excuse (or ‘reason’) that triggered the Penang protest two days ago is that the Chinese government of Penang demolished the illegal stalls of the Malay hawkers. Yes, that’s right. That was the reason given. The state government demolished the illegal stalls of the Malay hawkers.

Now, note this very important point offered by the protestors. First is that the hawkers are all Malays. Next is that they had set up illegal stalls. And the state government demolished these stalls.

The Malay Chamber admits that these stalls are illegal. But they protest the demolishing of these stalls because they are Malay owned. Does this mean if they are not Malay owned but Chinese owned then it is okay to demolish them? Does this also mean since they are Malay owned then the state should allow them to continue although they are illegal?

Anyway, that is not the crucial issue here. What is more important is that the state did not order the destruction of these stalls. And PAS, what could be considered a ‘Malay’ party, has come out to say so. PAS has come out in defence of DAP and Lim Guan Eng.

But someone did demolish those illegal Malay owned stalls. There is no denying this. And if it was not the state government then who did?

It was the local council of course. It is the local council’s job to demolish illegal stalls and to take action against any illegal activities in their area. But does not the local councils come under the state and carry out the orders of the state? In theory, yes. In practice, no. And this not only applies to local councils but to all other state agencies as well such as the state religious authorities and whatnot. They do what they want and not what the state orders them to do.

Remember the recent case where the Shah Alam Local Council in Selangor confiscated beer that was being sold in establishments that did not have a liquor licence? The thing is, beer is not classified as liquor so you do not need a liquor licence to sell beer. Therefore, technically, no crime has been committed. But the local council still acted on those selling beer without a liquor licence although no licence is required to sell beer.

What is going on here? In all the states ruled by Pakatan Rakyat the state agencies and local councils are not working in tandem with the state government. They appear to be working against the state government. The right hand does not seem to know what the left hand is doing.

It is really quite simple and you do not need to be a genius to figure it out. The state government is Pakatan Rakyat. But the state agencies like the local councils, religious department, district offices, land offices, the state economic development corporation, etc., are all staffed by Malays who are still loyal to Umno and working for Umno.

The Malays call this kepala tak serupa dengan badan (the head is not the same as the body). So the head thinks one way while the body moves in the opposite direction. That was how Terengganu was brought down in 1999 when the state agencies worked against Umno and the state fell to the opposition. And the same thing happened in Perak last year when the state agencies, including the State Secretary, worked against Pakatan Rakyat and in support of Umno.

The name of the game is to subvert the government. Sabotage it all the way. Do things that will make the government very unpopular with the voters. Sabotage, sabotage, sabotage!

But to do this you have to get behind enemy lines, as they would say in the Special Forces of the military. You need to get in there and sabotage from the inside. Then the government will fall.

And this is exactly what is happening in the Pakatan Rakyat states. But the Chief Ministers and their EXCO Members are slumbering away and enjoying the victory of the 8 March 2008 general election. And while they ‘rule’ the states, those in the lower levels of the state government set up bombs and booby traps.

Sun Tzu wrote his ‘thesis’ called The Art of War thousands of years ago. It is so simple and so basic. But then do not most of us get caught on the simple and basic things? Islam says most people will go to hell not because of their big sins but because of an accumulation of many small sins.

Yes, Islam knows we shall always be conscious of avoiding big sins. But we are never aware of the small sins we commit. And because we commit so many small sins, the accumulation of all these small sins is more damaging than the big sin, which we avoided so carefully.

So, the Pakatan Rakyat state government may have avoided making big mistakes. They are very careful so as to not make big blunders. But it is these little things and the accumulation of these many little things that will bring down the government.

Umno does not need to launch an all out frontal attack. That would be too costly and too apparent. All Umno needs to do is to activate its many sleepers in the state government agencies and get them to commit these ‘blunders’ -- which are not really blunders but intentional acts of sabotage.

The impression given to most people is that the opposition is in a mess. Actually, Barisan Nasional and Umno are in a bigger mess. But Barisan Nasional and Umno have very cleverly engineered it in such a way that all these many small issues affecting the opposition translate into one big mess.

The best and most effective way of bringing down the government is from the inside. And this is how they are trying to bring down Pakatan Rakyat -- with minor issues such as beer being confiscated and illegal Malay hawker stalls being demolished, which at the end of the day are made too look like one massive shit hole.

Have we not learned anything from history where the most impregnable wall can be breached with the use of the Trojan Horse?

Absolutely crocodile, they should have done that from day one.

Instead of maintaining status quo, key personnel should have been kept under scrutiny and transferred out or seconded elsewhere. Those confirmed UMNO kutu's, well, place them somewhere where they can do the least damage. Have them holed out in an office without a window and let them stew and ponder their own future's. All this can still be done albeit a bit late.

No matter the commotion in Penang, I wouldn't worry too much the shit stirring from that whatisname Perkasa(also know as UMNO's bitch) because ultimately it is the people of Penang who will decide. There may be unrest with elected officials but come polling day, their respective fate will be sealed.

It doesn't help that Pakatan coalition does not have one central voice that acts as counter weight to UMNO's mud slinging, till today, there isn't a cohesive communications panel that brings forth all three voices together to sound off one voice in unison.

It doesn't help that you yourself are away RPK because the role mentioned above is something right up your alley. There is much to gain if ranking members can come together to initiate such a cooperative body for purpose of communicating party agenda to the general public. It boggles me no such body or panel exist for it doesn't take much to set aside an allocation for the purchase of hardware and a stipend to core individuals to manage the entire body/panel or what you might want to call it.

Right now, it is still business(actually no business, initiative at all) as usual as Pakatan states face a daily barrage of attack that fulfills UMNO agenda of disruption but here again let me remind all that UMNO is turning away crucial support it needs from within Malay society. Any thinking person will note that M'sians don't have the stomach for above the top forms of protest ie cow head march, church burning or wild boar's head in mosque - unless egged of by sinister forces. Any thinking person can see through the deceit from both UMNO and PDRM's inaction that attempts to rile racial sensitivities is the work of sinister people under the auspice of UMNO, solely.

I take the opportunity to stress the need to think smart and never be "BAIT" or provoked to engage the monkeys in a sling match. Engage our own wits and pay no notice to all the barking as UMNO turns desperate. Let' see out this passing storm with a view of a future with better promise.

Hmm... granted the facts given by RPK, LGE & his pr colleagues should have been more vocal defending the allegation of racial bias in the demolition of the illegal hawker stalls.
But, of course, the mSM won't carry their rebuttals.
Yet, until our dear RPK come out with this piece, even in the alternative media, the PR state government has chosen to be silent.
I, too, have formed the idea there may be some thruth in the allegations but only in the context that those umnoputras were protected by their former running dog under the previous administration.

This country will only move in the right direction if all government agencies and local councils behave professionally. Looking at how things are going, this may be a tall order. But I do believe there are more good guys than bad guys in these agencies and local councils.

It is time for these people to standup and do what is right for the country. You don't have to take side just do the right things right. If you are directed to do anythings that will not be good for the country and also create racial tension, disobey such instructions.

Remember, you will one day be judged on all the things you do. You better make sure they are all good things from now onward.

The timing can not be such a coincidence when Anwar is in court fighting for his dear life in Sodomy II. Just look at the timing of out-bursts from the 3 PKR’s MP coming out one after the other just before the start of Anwar’s trail. The 3 MPs couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate time, could they?

And Tuesday 9 February 2010, when the Federal court declares who is the rightful MB for Perak? Will a Perak state re-election be called? If it is called, will PK be disarrayed when AI and PR are being distracted at the court? Why is the Sodomy trail so timed to coincide to the Federal court judgment on Perak?

It is clear, UMNO offensive strategy is now in place. See the damages Ibrahim Ali tried to arouse the Malays in Penang against LGE. Is there any coincidence the punch lines used by Zahrain, calling LGE a “dictator, a chauvinist and communist-minded” similar to that of Ibrahim Ali (or Zul Nordin)? Ibrahim Ali himself was an out-cast of UMNO and in “limbo rock” for many years (until he need to use a PAS ticket through the compassion of Nik Aziz to be elected MP). How did he head Perkasa and become instant compatriot of TDM if not being a “subsidiary” /sponsored by UMNO.

Isn’t it Sun Tze and a clever strategy, while Najib and UMNO try to play the good guys to carry out 1Malaysia (to hoodwink unsuspecting Malaysians} the rascal - Ibrahim Ali is leading Perkasa to do the dirty jobs of UMNO in carrying out their racist’s agenda?

Off topic: In the last two years we have seen Pakatan fail to deliver the meaningful strident changes that the rakyat expected, but we saw Anwar choose and surround himself with sycophants, as (again) in the Bukit Selambau by-election. It would be better if Anwar is arrested and replaced by Nik Aziz as Pakatan leader. That will give a false sense of security to BN too. And DAP must have a new sec-gen with LGE 'promoted' to chairman, before the next GE.

What government support are the Malay's lacking. The whole government machinery is working for them. What the non-Malays are getting is crumbs. Ibrahim and his followers want to deprive the non-Malays of everything. Because this group is going out the way it does, more productive people will leave this country and less FDI. Simple as that and cannot Najib see this written all over the wall.

And as for the leaches in MCA, MIC, PPP and Gerakan - do you have the balls to condemn PERKASA. If not, do not claim to represent the poor non-Malays any longer.

it would have been wise to remove those holding key positions in decision making..quickly ..who may sabotage the system by planting bombs like this earlier. The sooner the better. In a case like this THE DECISION WAS RIGHT BUT THE TIMING WAS FOR UMOONO... The local council head should be replaced to consult the CM before this is done...specially anything that is seen as akin to anti-Malay or anti chinese.

Following what Ibrahim had done, why don't the Chinese Chamber of Commerce hold demonstration and burn the effigy of Najib for the reason that most illegal DVD sellers arrested are chinese or, if that reason is too trival, most of the PKFZ corrupt officials charged in court are chinese?

Likewise, why don't the Indian Chamber of Commerce also hold demonstration that most of the people caught consuming illegal samsu or wife beaters are indians?

The reasons raised by him are so blatantly stupid that even is shy of using that tactic thus, using a moron like Ibrahim Ali, for the purpose of creating disharmony in Penang!

Ibrahim Ali is surely beating down the path to May 13 and if he is not a candidate to be behing bars for instigating racial hatred among the peace loving community in Malaysia or ISAed, I don't know who would be a suitable candidate than him! If ever there is May 13, he and UMNO are the ones that started it! Why are there 2 standards for the police and Hishammuddin? This is a guy who is clearly using stupid and wrong statistics about a particular race being arrested for illegal hawkering and does not bother to check the accuracy of the statistics of illegal hawkers in Penang. No, after Friday prayer he instigated the malays after mosque to do an evil and untruth act. Your points on sabotage and subversion are valids. Attempts to portray the injustice of DAP.

If sacking the whole bunch and re-appointing all of the people from DAP/PAS own selection is what you are advocating, I would argue against that. The conservaive Malays with, leanings and sympathies to the mob, would find it too hard to stomach. Defensive walls will build up immediately.

Avoid wholesale drastic changes will offer some form of continuity of government. The people can take it.

I say, DAP, together with PKR/PAS together, look at each issue raised by the public or sabotagers, case by case , such as demolishing illegal malay stalls, effigy burning etc, explain to the public the reasons for doing so to thrash the "chinese Vs Malay" perception. And move on, after.

We just have to accept these trojan horse, monkey tricks by these people, and slowly release them from their duties with approval from the PR team..

Religion has been used by many in the world to control people, as it has been for Malaysia to its destruction today.

The strong religious conviction people in the PR camp has to come out to say more often that relgion should stay out in most, if not all argument, for a better malaysia. Who is to say the stale mob's Islam is better than PR Islam, or vice versa. There is no end to religon argument.

No developed countries are built from using religious issues as political issues. They are built on good policies, offered by one of the two party system, and good governance.

As long as independent web is around, the bloggers and rakyat will help the PR camp to see through all these monkey tricks, like the effigy burning. the damage should be minimal. We can go on the offensive any time, releasing more positive results for the people of Penang and malaysia, as LGE did when he was called a "dictator/communist"

I would like to make a small suggestion in support of your 'voter get voters campaign'. I think there are many people who would like to contribute to help this beloved country - but may be incapacitated, powerless, not committed enough, or are just plain too kiasu to want to help in a meaningful or visible way.
However, if there should be an avenue where the small can contribute and be agglomerated into a bigger voice, even a non-political one, perhaps they would make a collective difference.
my proposal - I have noticed your pay-pal payment option. 1) Start an account that collects from all your readers who share your vision 2) Use all proceeds to fund for ads / campaigns / PR stints for voter registration. The a/c should be very clear abt its objectives and be totally transparent 3) Perhaps a chain mail link started from MTtoday listing the start of the campaign, (with helpful links to Surunhanjaya Pilihanraya for ppl to check their status, where their nearest registration office is, etc etc) should kick off. Your loyal readers will undoubtedly make this email viral. If you start this process, I am sure there may be quite a few who would assist in their small way to get your message across. I will definitely be one.

Actually BN and all it component parties are in a big mess themselves. They plundered the nation coffers like nobody business in broad daylight nowadays. And the authorities motto are "we close both eyes". Like the Malay say " mana boleh lawan boss, nanti kena makan pasir".
Then come the hero in the name of Perkasa, all behave like uncivilised peoples to make trouble. If this group became too powerful it will start to "perkosa" later. In tandem came another group call themselves Malay Chamber of Commerce but a lot of it's member look like Indians. How come an Indians DNA can be change to become a Malay? Could anyone please enlighten me because I'm very CONFUSE.

When it comes to subversion and dirty tricks, no one can match UMNO's putras . DAP's Lim Guan Eng being new and trying to please the Chinese for voting him in overlook the enemies within. Even if one is good and just ,one should also be wise as a serpent, so that the enemies would not destroyed him. This the DAP failed to understand Sun Tzu, not because they didn't read Sun Tzu but are proub and busy pleasing the people who once helped them win. 1. The simple truth is the Pakatan State Govenmnents are more oriented on rendering basic services on ground zero rather than cloak-and-dagger manipulative strategies which are typical trademarks of UMNO. That's why things never get done during UMNO's time except for big bucks exchanging hands.
2. Pakatan is new to knowing how to survive in the political game. They may not have realised strategy is very much part of the survival minefield.
3. Thay are just like the honest kids. Sometimes it takes to lie to get your way around.
4. UMNO knows all the dirty tricks of the trade. Thay learned it for 30+ years. In fact. they have more dirty tricks than doing good deeds for the rakyat.
5. Pakatan needs to beef up and learn these few dirty tricks too. Or they would not be around long before UMNO get the better of them. Perak was one good excellent lesson.
6. Unfortunately, when Pakatan gets to a level to be head-on with Barsian with all these dirty tricks on the books, nothing would ever get done and the rakyat suffers.
