(FMT) SHAH ALAM: Four Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) students who are due to face a disciplinary tribunal for allegedly campaigning in the recent Hulu Selangor by-election filed for an injunction today at the Shah Alam High Court.
The injunction is to stop the university from proceeding with its tribunal pending a legal action by the students to challenge the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971.
The students plan to challenge the validity of Section 15 (5) (a) of the Act on grounds that the clause is against the Federal Constitution.
The four political science students - Hilman Idham, Ismail Aminuddin, Azlin Shafina Adzha and Woon King Chai - are charged by their university for allegedly participating in the Hulu Selangor by-election. The university claimed that they had breached Section 15 (5) (a) which disallows students from participating in political activities.
The four are scheduled to face the university tribunal on June 2 and 3.
After filing the injunction application, Hilman said they would know by tomorrow the hearing date for their application.
“Once that's done, the university should postpone the tribunal to a later date in order to allow the court to decide whether the law is illegal or not.”
“In fact, our lawyer K Ashok has written a letter to UKM to state that we are filing for an injunction today but they have yet to respond to our letter to date.” he said.
When asked what would be his next course of action if the injunction is rejected by the court, Hilman said he will file an appeal in that case.

the Universities have been hi-jacked by the BN politic members.. and u never say a dam thing about it.
How ever, do it with others... you are to be punished....
question here, Why do we need to study so hard? To get a better income, and building a better country. OK, maybe someone are trying to get a better living in foreign. ( BTW. they wont go foreign, if local treat them slightly better)
In study, we were taught to responsible, and loyal to the country. IF the there are some party, who are destroying the country... shouldnt the ppl of responsible, and loyal to the country. stand up against the evil of the country??
in Foreign country, (EVEN Republic of China), their government too, listen to the ideas of the University Student.
