(Bernama) - The police will use Facebook to get closer to the public, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

“As the social networking website is a popular medium of interaction, the police will capitalise on it from early January to achieve its targets by getting closer to the public,” he told Bernama in an interview.

To be managed by the Bukit Aman Media Centre, he said the Facebook would enable the public to have more access to the police other than through Rakan Cop and the police’s website.

“It will allow the public not only to file complaints on police services but also to relay information on crimes,” he said, adding that the decision to use Facebook emanated from feedbacks received during the Government Transformation Programme Open Day recently.

On challenges confronting the police in 2010, he said the police would continue to pursue its five-year strategic plan launched in 2006.

“The police’s involvement with the public will be stepped up in curbing crimes and maintain security. As the IGP, I want to see in 2010, we go all out to fight crimes, including human and drug trafficking.

“The public have seen that the police are getting more amenable to them, not only among the rank and file policemen but also district police chiefs, through community policing,” he said.

Musa said the measure was seen as a positive step in discarding the “fear of police” stigma and would help create a law-abiding community.

On allegations of police brutality, he said the police adhered to procedures when dealing with crime suspects.

“I know of certain quarters, who like to find faults against us. We do not go beyond our limits. —

“We follow the procedures when we make arrests... if the suspects are armed and dangerous, we have to defend ourselves as they threaten public safety,” he said. Musa said certain quarters like to politicise issues as they want to convince the people to pay attention to their agendas by tarnishing the police’s image.

“There were some people, who claimed that the police are not doing their job, they raised sensitive issues... they have their agendas, interests... they do not want the police to curb crimes effectively.

“The police do not practise favouritism. Whether you are a small fry or a shark, we will nab you,” he added.

Musa said despite the critics, the Royal Malaysian Police had received international accolades for its success in solving crimes, including the ISO 9001-2008 for solving human trafficking cases.

In curtailing cross-border crimes, he said the police would join forces with other agencies like the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Customs and Immigrations. He called on leaders, including menteri besar and chief ministers, to assist the police in combating crimes.

Oh and not to mention.. .Do you guys ever noticed how much houses are renovated to look more like a prison, with grills, barbed wire etc all around the house? It not only tries to keep the robbers away... it's like we are imprisoning ourselves in our homes, scared to go out...

Prisons were supposed to lock the bad guys away... Now people build prisons to lock themselves out of robbers' reach... which are running free on the streets instead.

Coming back to my experiences... I have many bad experiences with the police. The latest personal experience was early 2009 when I was robbed at knife point in front of my house. When we lodged a report, the police merely told us that we are not the first case that day. They even described how the robber dressed like and it matches our description... The funny thing is... It was at least 16 hours ago, and all they could do was to "mention" and "describe" about the case. Nothing solid was seen.

Then I HAD TO TELL THE POLICE WHAT TO DO... THEY SEEMS TO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO NEXT. I told them that the area was quite small. If they send police officers, they might be in time to catch these robbers. AND THEIR REPLY WAS... POLICEMEN ARE NOT ENOUGH, WE HAVE TO PATROL OTHER PLACES.

Then I told them that the robbers got my wife's bag, with our house key. They might even rob my house... Only then another police officers came in (seems like he is of a higher rank). He called up the patrol and sent 2 officers there to guard.

It took me almost 2 hours to have a report done, and to see an inspector... If the culprit was still around, they would have enough time to even ride a bike down to Melaka already before the police decides what to do... How to catch the robber?

It has been almost a year after the case... When the news about a group of robbers, robbing 5 shops in the morning, right under the police's nose with a police station within 100 meters... I called up the complaint centre to inform that one of the robber shown on the newspaper looked like the one robbing me... Yet... Up until now, there has been no news...

Friends, relatives and now neighbours got robbed... And everytime we hear from them, it is always complaint about how the police handled the case. There are even rumours that the police knew who they were, but did not take action due to some "reasons" which I rather not speculate (as I've just heard and had not seen myself).

Yet the police can claim they solved this many cases which is of higher numbers than last year... Well my comment would be...

1) U (police) has admitted that there is an increase of crimes (due to more cases you are solving).
2) Of the number of cases solved, WHAT WAS THE NUMBER OF REPORTED+NON REPORTED CASES? WHAT IS THE PERCENTAGE OF CASE SOLVING RATE?

Don't come telling us that you have DONE SO MUCH and you have performed... BECAUSE WE EXPERIENCED DIFFERENTLY. We are haunted with fear as we see more and more of people around us got robbed, houses got broke in, etc etc... And NONE THAT WE HEAR FROM THEM THAT THE POLICE INFORMED THEM THEY CAUGHT THE CULPRIT. So... DON"T JUST TELL US THE NUMBER... MAKE US FEEL SAFE INSTEAD.

A neighbour's house has just been broke in today... Another neighbour who called the police station, got "Busy" tone... When they rushed to the police station to grab a policemen to go with them to catch the thief... He told them...

"I can't go... I have to make reports"...

Soon... The reply from the police force will be...

"U'll have to wait... I'm busy harvesting my farmville/fishville..." or

"I'm not in good mood... My farmbuddy's crops/craps has just been stolen"...

And the chief could then say...

"We have not enough police officers... Cause all of them need to heed my call to play facebook... Actually I purposely propose that... So that I can LEGALLY and OFFICIALLY play my facebook while at work..."

These people... never failed to amaze me... U know what... Up until now... NO POLICE OFFICER WAS ASSIGNED TO HANDLE THAT CASE... AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER ABOUT THE VICTIM... And... From what I learnt an hour ago... The victim decided to call up some friends, and tries to lodge a report in another "kawasan" HOPING TO FIND A DECENT POLICEMAN WHO'LL HANDLE THE CASE...

When you can't count the police, what you'll do? I think the rakyat would have to set up a new "Social Peace Foundation" where they'll be trained up to be "PRIVATE POLICE/MILITARY OFFICERS" to handle social issues... COUNT ON THE POLICE? I think our dead body will turn into ashes before they could even really do something...

I have more stories and bad experiences that I would like to share... Last few days, I've watched the news where the police came out with figures about how much they've achieve... To me... It doesn't mean a thing... I'll tell in further details next time.

Musa, you being the IGP should know better... Ask yourself a few questions and answer them sincerely....
a) What has happened to all those unsolved cases - Kugan,... here the cop charged was the guy who arrested Kugan, but not the one who killed him, ..Right..? 11 cops (incld mata2) were involved.. 3 Indians, rest Melayus (who killed Kugan)..apa dah jadi..Instead of solving the case, you rewarded the USJ8 Balai, by renovating and upgrading it.. ?? b) PI Bala...???.... c) a number of shootouts where 4 or 5 guys in a car get shot and killed...????
Common knowledge is - the cops are instructed to get rid of as many Indians as possible, shoot to kill at the slightest chance - Betul tak..?? Then you have Teoh Beng Hock case and many, many more...
Now small time PR Politicians are being 'fixed up', esp in Selangor...
Do you know that all the dirty work you are doing is making things worse for your Boss.?? It will tell, when the next GE arrives... What's going to happen to you, bro..?? Tak malu ka...?? All the proof of your involvement with the Underworld,....tak malu ka...?? U buat macam tak tahu aje...
Now u masuk Facebook.... Is it supposed to be a joke...??? As it is, you and Najib are the Biggest Malaysian joke abroad.... tak malu ka..??
you are going to screw yourself big time, by masuking Facebook... Every Malaysian knows you are highly corrupted...tak malu ka...? No one respects the PDRM anymore, including former Police Officers...tak malu ka...??? I know you can't step down now, it's too late.... Najib got you involved too deep.... So how now... ?? BK Tan, Dato Ta, Babi Kiang - semua boleh tolong you ka...??? You are a disgrace to your family....tahu tak...?? tak malu ka...?? you come from a respectable family.... B'cos of $$$$...you farked up.... tak malu ka...??

Do not expose yourself unnecessary. If you feel your privacy has been compromised for purposes other than social networking, report it immediately to FB and copy it everyone else.

Make your own facebook engine called "mukagarang face". A new facebook that truly represent the PDRM. You can get tons of money from the rakyat (government) with excuses to get close to them. The most important of all is that you can control exactly what they can or cannot do. They cannot simply make comments unless it is allowed and vetted (no crime report, only ampu PDRM). No posting foto unless it ampu PDRM.
Who knows, maybe the rest of mafia groups locally and from abroad would want to buy our engine, better than selling physical jet engine that can be traced....
Brilliant no? .
