(The Malaysian Insider) - It will be a glorious new year for some 850,000 Catholics in Malaysia.
In a landmark ruling today, the High Court here lifted the home minister’s ban against the Catholic church publishing the word “Allah” to refer to the Christian God in its weekly paper, Herald.
Counsel for the Herald, Porres Royan, told reporters outside the crowded court, “The court has granted the declaration that the applicant has the Constitutional right to use the word Allah. I believe the ministry is bound by the court’s decision.”Senior Federal counsel Datuk Kamaludin Md Said said, “I was made to understand the ministry has already issued the permit for 2010.” The publishing permit for the Herald expires today.
He added that he will consult the ministry for new instruction, when asked about his next course of action.
The government had said that the ban was necessary to avoid confusing the majority Muslims in the country. Islam is the official religion in Malaysia.

Which religion you chose to embrace does not matter, as long as your religion teaches compassion, love and respect. You're on the right track.

"My prayer is for Home Ministry not to appeal but to allow Christian to use the word "Allah" for their internal publication (basically publication eg bible, herald for non-muslim only) and for their worship in their place of worship. "
Why for 'non-Muslim only' ?
Is the Koran only for Muslims to read? Do the Korans available in Malaysia have 'For Muslim only' caption in the front cover?
Do the Azan prayers on RTM with their Koranic verses being read and televised come with the caveats ' For Muslims only' ? Discrimination in all its forms is not allowed by Allah.
When will the Home ministry start being logical and non-discriminatory?

My prayer is for Home Ministry not to appeal but to allow Christian to use the word "Allah" for their internal publication (basically publication eg bible, herald for non-muslim only) and for their worship in their place of worship.
Those in authority may have a very narrow perspective when they 1st considered the banning of the use of the word. But now that the Christian authority has highlighted that the word "Allah" has been used by
Christian for decades; the Home Ministry and their allies should reconsider their stand and allow the use of the word. This I believe is better than appeal and create love/hate relationship while promoting Malaysia1!

The instruction is to appeal and the appellate court will rule in gomen's favour.
Down with UMNO racists!

The list goes on, but I don't mind they own some of them permanently. Because the words do confuse the innocent users. The words do tarnish the users after all these 50 years of UMNO shits desecreting the vocabulary of otherwise clean usages.

Why don't these Christians use EL ALLAH instead! Time for CHANGE!!

In BolehLand all so-called landmark decisions in Malaysian courts are subject to appeals and 10 out of 10 appeals end up with rulings going against the first ruling.
What? You don't think so? Remember Perak MB fiasco? Remember all the other rulings in appeals by UMNO/BN which all ended up with 'bought' judges dishing out rulings in favour of UMNO/BN?
My advice is don't start bringing out those champagne yet.

And where were the Voices of those Chinese Leaders in the BN Govt who are screaming out loud that they are Christians ?? like in LDP....MCA...Garakan ..All cowards with their Silence on this issue.....such hypocrites.

Malay judges unfortunately being generally below par intellectually and in legal matters due to UMNO's policy of controlling the judiciary, will not dare to go against their master UMNO who has appointed and promoted them for a very specific reason, that is to secure its hegemony. Our judges have increasingly been seen to be willing prostitutes of the ruling power.
Unfortunately Pakatan leaders as well have shown their moral cowardice particularly Anwar Ibrahim. He could have made an unequivocal statement when this issue arose saying that Allah is a universal term for the Abrahamic faiths. But he chose to keep a cowardly silence. Shame on you Anwar!
Anwar is so insecure in his political support amongst the Malays that he continues to play his trademark duplicitious politics.

That the UMNOputras will get it overturned at the higher courts is without doubt.
But it is indicative there's semblance of justice in our judiciary-how can any one in his right sense claim that the term Allah is exclusive to Malay Muslim usage only?
written by Proarte, December 31, 2009 20:17:44
I dare any Muslim to deny that the God of Abraham, Jesus and Muhammed is NOT Allah.
If they are stupid enough to do so, then it is clear they have not read the Koran but only the UMNO manifesto.
