(Free Malaysia Today) - A probe is continuing into how a RM50million fighter jet engine belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force went missing from the Sungei Besi base in 2007when the  current Prime Minister  Najib Abdul Razak was Defence Minister.

The engine was sold to an international company based in South Africa.  Also found missing were maintenance and other service records of the jet.

It was reported that the General Electric J85-21A afterburner turbojet engine, which served as a power plant for the single-seater F-5E Tiger 11 and RF-5E Tigereye, went missing  late last year during a routine maintenance service check.

Yesterday, Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi blamed the well-planned theft and sale of the engine on  a group of low-ranking officers working in cahoots with civilians.

Malaysia's Believe It Or Not!!
That a jet engine can go MIA must make our air force the butt of jokes the world over.
It is imperative, it goes without saying that the truth must be told, the culprits punished!!

What low ranking officer is he talking about? NST reported a Brigadier was involved.

What investigation is he talking about? NST reported that those responsible have been dealt with, militarily I suppose, as at end of last year.

What the f is this defense minister talking about?

What is the big deal the case suddenly appearing with much publicity now, but not then?

Dear Zaid...

You are absolutely right to say that low ranking officers are involved in the 50 million engine theft.

If it were the middle officers, it would be 500 million! Am I right?

If it were the top brass it ould be 500 billion right or not?

It it were the ministers it would be 500 trillion right or not?

No SHAME KAH TALKING LIKE THAT?

If this incident were to take place in Japan the Minister responsible would take full responsibility & commit hara kiri. Those indirectly responsible would resign immediately to symbolise acceptance of responsibility and expression of remorse, repentence for lapses & moral anguish.
In Malaysia life goes on unscathed unblemished & untarnished..

They say the truth will come out no matter what. This debacle reeks of another FIRST for Msia Boleh. For goodness sake, much $$$ has been allotted for the govt to rule this country but so far, the rakyat is getting a lousy deal. It seems like no one is minding the country and looting of the country (seems like a competition is on-going to see who can plunder the most) is the name of the game. There is no light at the end of the tunnel till this gomen goes.

After our beloved CPrime Minister has spent and digested the proceeds, a probe is continuing into how a RM50million fighter jet engine belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force went missing from the Sungei Besi base in 2007. The current Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was Defence Minister but he has a good alibi, he was away in Paris entertaining some Mongolian delegation in Paris at that time. $o $emua-nya OK!

It'd have made a good joke for the newspaper cartoons had it not involve the defence of the country. Looks like the rot has reached down to the grassroots of the govt machinery, if we are to believe Ahmad, who prefers the buck stops with the junior officers. It seems now that there is nothing that the govt servants and politicians would not do to fatten their pockets. My advice to Najib, please stop all these slogans of 1Malaysia etc as it makes you look ridiculous and stupid in the eyes of the world, what with all these scandals appearing every now and then.

In India, there is a story about how corruption works. A president of a University writes to the Govt to get a budget to build a water tower. Once he gets the money, he leaves. The next president comes in , looks at the paper work, and writes to request for a budget to repair the water tower that he claims is leaking. He gets his money and leaves. The 3rd presidet comes in , takes a look and writes to the Govt and says that even after extensive repairs, the tower is leaking and requests for a new budget to rebuild a new tower. In the end everyone makes their money, but there is no water tower.
Believe me, this is exactly what happened with our TUDM!!!

Don't blame, Zahid. You must be man enough to take the rap if this happened on your watch. You ARE the Defence Minister, so if your charges misbehave, you ARE responsible.

But if it happened before your watch, then you have the obligations to bring to book the previous DM. Huh.... I wonder who it was ..... smilies/wink.gif

I just hope the US Govt not putting us on a terrorist watch because of this incidence. After all, we watch so many movies where sensitive military parts go missing only to end up being dealt to terrorists group for sinister activities. And sometimes, Hollywood parallels reality.

What an irresponsible and stupid statement coming from Hamid! Is he trying to tell us even small fries in the Defence ministry can easily steal and cart away something as enormous as a jet engine? Or is he trying to imply Najib as the former defence minister was at fault thus taking the side of Muhyiddin in the early turf war between the PM and DPM?

Just imagine, the UMNO government administration is now so screwed up that almost anyone from top-down can steal and squander away the country's properties and wealth almost at will! My God! RM50 million for low-ranking officers to steal freely!

Using this as a yardstick, imagine the millions, billions already stolen by high-ranking corrupt officers, Ministers and perhaps current and former PMs too! The UMNO shit is coming from all directions! Looking at it any other way, this inept UMNO government must go! People, let's screw them back, vote them out! Damn it!

Ai yah, of course it was some low ranking officers that are involved. It is just like the Mafia organisation, the Godfather is always clean, it is the low ranking gansters that does all the dirty work and of course gets caught. Even a idiot will know where the money trail leads to.......definitely not the low rank officers.

It's difficult to comprehend that low ranking have overseas contacts in such a dealing. This case involved officers high up to the top echelon of the air force. The defence minister at the time should have been asked to resign. Looks like they covered it up well as the thief happened in 2007. Our country defence had been compromised by the very people who were supposed to defend her. No excuse for such incompetence. And I believe that this is the tip of the iceberg. I personally know of one spare parts shop owner that used to sell Volvo and Land Rover parts to the arm forces who, made a lot of money by buying back the parts at give-away price from solders who smuggle them out and resale to the shop. So physically a part may move in and out of an army camp several times before they are actually used.

///Yesterday, Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi blamed the well-planned theft and sale of the engine on a group of low-ranking officers working in cahoots with civilians.///

The Defence Minister is definite correct that only the low-ranking officers can be charged. The mastermind and those who pocket the lion share of the sale will be scot-free. That is why corruption spreads in the country. The three charged under PKFZ project did not get the billion ringgit in the land sale. The billionaires benefited from PKFZ are free to enjoy the money with impunity, but he low-ranking operators wil be charged and the matter is close.

During peace time, jet engines got sold. At the time of war, the fighter planes would be at the decision of the pilots, to sell, or to crash.

Aiya. What is RM50m compared to the questionable submarine deal ooh.
...
written by Davy McChester, December 21, 2009 05:00:23
It is the tip of the iceberg. The Air Force logistics system is as good a system as any Air Force in the world as long as integrity and honesty is rewarded. But not with today 's TUDM . It has been UMNOputranised .There is so much fear within the personnel managing the procurement and logistics system, to point out improprieties or to be a whistle blower.Like everywhere else when UMNOputras and their henchmen(proxies) get involved in business , the integrity of the organisation suffers. This corrupted the system and most commanders would rather toe the line than get skipped in their promotions ,or transferred to isolated bases,or in limbo. This is the scenario which has weakened quality and integrity of the personnel manning the Air Force. There are so many cases where the culprits got away because of their "special ties". It is a syndicate from the outside with connections inside..filtering downwards. UMNOputras involvement in business have weakened the check and balance. It is quite easy to catch not only these culprits ,also all other crooks. All the crooks including Mahathir are now begging for "ketuanan" badges as the getaway car from years of robbery and plunder. If a $500 million ringgit commission over the submarine purchase goes away without a wink ,what is $50 million ringgit ? Most Malaysians may recall the purchase of the defense Northrop aircraft F5 by the RMAF(TUDM).According to then honest reporting news papers there was a commission/pay off in the region of US$5000.00 .The Wing Commander of the Logistic Dept was charged , convicted and sentenced to three years or so to jail . He actually served his sentence. That was before the most corrupted dictator and bullshitter ,Mahathir ,came to power and ruined the country of all its checks and balances. He did not teach how to fish for a living .He gave away the fish in a gold platter by disallowing the check and balance in the system to be imposed without fear or favor. The check and balance ,he hated ,because they were the financial accounting vestiges of the colonial power . These checks and balances ,to the greatest bullshitter Mahathir ,was an impediment to his economic policies. And yet this evil goes around telling people how to do business ?? The only business he knows is how to bankrupt the country and put the blame either on the West ,for example ,on Soros ,or as a diversionary tactic create most suspicion among Malaysians ,again divide and rule them. That is what he did 22 years. Malaysia is broken and it needs to be fixed. A two party system must emerge to address the consequences of Mahathir's 22 years authoritarian rule

Maybe planes are missing but reported fell down from the skies!

How about submarines? How many did we buy and how many are still out there sailing in the seas and how many are missing without the Raayat knowing!

How many tanks are stil working instead of sitting around in some warehouse or is it already being sold as scrap to the steel scrap owned by Maniam?

It is really a shame lah, Najis!

I am totally ashamed of this. Maybe the police should arrest the reporter who report this under ISA instead of finding and catching the perpetrators behind bars?

2)BA hawk 100 & 200 jet fighter-crashed other than war.
3) F-18 Hornet jet fighter- crashed other than war.
4) KD Inderapura support ship burned- purposely burned in order to justify the new purchase
5) F5E Tiger II jet engine -stolen and sold
6) NEXT : Will our submarines' torpedo and ship to ship missiles also quietly sold to black market later???

It is common for the government to establish to task force or committee to probe. The establishment of such task force or committee is to please the public that the government is taking action. But if you follow through, the intention is never to do anything.

If you don't believe just look through all previous task forces or committees established by government to investigate into something that came to public attention. At the end it is doing nothing.

It reminds me of the British comedy serious known as Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. But you can't blamce the government as Malaysians keep returning them to power after every election.

It's not like the culprits put the engine into the boot of a car and drove off into the sunset!! This operation would have required manpower, logistics, planning, and collaboration at several levels - a trail a blind man would have been able to follow. It would have been easier to smuggle a live elephant out of the base where the engine was stored. It has surely taken a long time to find out that the engine has gone walkabout.
