(Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is investigating 71 cases of Internet abuse by disseminating false and lewed contents and contents that insult Islam.

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said out of the 71, eight had been acted upon under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for defaming others.

"One had pleaded guilty and fined RM10,000 and the court also imposed certain conditions on the accused, while seven are awaiting trial," he said in reply to a question from Matulidi Jusoh (BN-Dungun) in the Dewan Rakyat Thursday.

Rais said seven people, including one who had fled to avoid action, were involved in disseminating contents that ridiculed Islam and the MCMC was tracing the one who fled.

He disclosed that the ministry had also taken action under Section 263 of the Act against seven websites which insulted Islam, namely www.syurga-islam.blogspot.com, www.faithfreedom.org, manatuhanallah.wordpress.com, adibahahmed.blogspot.com, surind.blogspot.com, tokbatinsenoi.blogspot.com and www.malaysia-today.net/.

Rais said besides charging the offenders under the law, Section 263 of the Act also allowed the MCMC and the other authorities to give written notice to the Internet service provider to take appropriate action to prevent such an offence.

To a supplementary question from Hamim Samuri (BN-Ledang) on the effectiveness of the broadband centres, he said to date, 85 centres were in operation nationwide and another 89 were being set up and expected to be completed by the year end.

"By the middle of next year, the broadband penetration will be awesome with the speed of 4mbps increased to 10mbps, while some broadband centres will attain the speed of at least 4mbps," he said.

This Rais guy reminds me of a comedian. Really. I can picture the comedian but then Rais' face replaces him immediately after that. He acts in Malay movies. I think he acted with P Ramli - of course you cannot say that his acting is as good as P Ramli.

But what is that guy's name I wonder. Sometimes I think that perhaps that movie star became a politician. Mega bucks in politics.

People are not insulting Islam - they are insulting the crooks and criminals who leverage Islam to justify their illegitimate actions and behavior.

Using religion as cover for misdeeds, crimes, etc is subject to challenge, especially if it victimizes anyone.
(in fact, all muslims and non-muslims should stand-up against this wanton and flagrant use of religion as a weapon-of-coercion)

Datuk Seri Utama Rais cannot help himself but is just helping himself up. He has his KPIs and NKRAs but his effort to probe Internet sites taxes him. I'm hoping these probings lets people see his inefficiencies. I don't know what other good things he is doing. Looking forward for a faster connection at home... let say 10Gbps at RM44 monthly or I think RM100 per month is just nice for that speed. .

Nov 13, 09 4:45pm

Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohd Hasan could have broken the country's banking laws by allegedly transferring funds amounting to RM10 million through a money changer in 2008, claimed PKR's strategy director Tian Chua today.

He said this was discovered by Bank Negara recently in its investigations into errant money changers.

Rais, you are wrong about faithfreedom.org. Ali Sina exposes the truth about Islam. He challenges anyone to refute his allegations that the Quran and Hadith contains verses of evil intentions but instead the MCMC has barred the website. Fortunately, it is still possible to access the website via proxy server like www.nuip.net.

NS menteri besar just laundered RM10 mil of money? any more info? to his blonde GF? Maybe some relatives studying there so that he can buy London property for his holiday home like all the rich malay elites do. Then they can brag about it during hari raya about their shopping trips there?

Imagine how much money this country could have saved if only the stupid government had allowed all students to have their higher education in this country. The best and most creative time is when we are young. Full of energy and ambition. Unfortunately, this country does not recognise this and promotes the mediocre to manage everything including education.

Guess how they can track you if you are registered with Malaysia Today and make any comment which they deemed seditious??

Easily if your subscription is paid by cheque to the Malaysia account of Mrs RPK and you email to Malaysia Today informing them of your payment and your online name to comment. One set of info can be obtain thro bank Negara and the other thro the filter already put in place by the MCMC.

So pay your subscription by cash and don't let the Bank have your real name or IC no. if you would like to comment freely and not be tracked easily!

MCMC supposed to monitor the internet and prevent it from being abused. If it were western oriented, it would go after terrorists and let off porn. If it were religious oriented, it would go after porn and be more tolerant of those that criticize the Zionists and US occupiers of Iraq.

If it were UMNO oriented, it would do the bidding of UMNO. What do you think the orientation of MCMC is?

The muslims feared that their religion are going to disappear from the face of earth. That's why they are trying to convert more people into it. And denied any request to convert from the religion. Soon, people will do their up-most to get out of it. And Islam will meet it's doom. Repent or die.

Several years ago, national geographic televised a documentary questioning the link between Jesus Christ and christianity.
I would like to question the same? is the religion of Islam really from God? Why does the religion need protection from humans? Normally, humans seek God for protection.

Didn't the pahang syariah court insult the religion of islam by imposing a fine and caning to a lady who drank beer? Where did they get this punishment from? Why are muslim single parents, who are mostly women, cannot get justice from syariah court when it comes to upbringing of children abandoned by their fathers? Why are muslim wives in rural areas dying like flies from AIDS, infected from their father because he practises unsafe sex or is a drug addict? Is that why several state impose a AIDS test on the male before marriage is allowed?

Koraniic texts states -

"...O people of the Book, let us come to a common understanding between us and between you; that 1) we serve none except God, and 2) that we do not set up anything with Him, and 3) that none of us takes each other as patrons besides God...." (The Message 3:64)

“'Shall I seek other than God as a judge when He has sent down to you the Book fully detailed?'” Those to whom We have given the Book know it is sent down from your Lord with truth; so do not be of those who have doubt." (The Message 6:114 )

Dear Rice

Is BN so insecured that they need to drag in religion to protect its interest? Just because some revealed the truth about some Muslims who are so happened to be in BN (and not criticizing islam) in all their corrupted practice, then the govt is using MCMC to silent the whistle blowers. Rice, either you have no brain or your are just being naive. That concludes that your are not fit to be a minister.

Rais,

You can prosecute those in the country, what about those outside ? You must also prosecute those around the world who talks bad about Islam as well. If you can, then perhaps you are true to your faith. Right now you are using the good name of Islam to achieve your own political ambitions.

There have always been a big question why Tunku Abdul Rahman hated Mahathir so much and refused to talk to him even on his death bed. My family heard it from those close to Tunku that basically for this - the culture of lies and deceit be brought with him into UMNO. Since his faction started it in 1969, the culture of lies and deceit has only grown and now out of control where the flimsiest lies with potentially dire consequences is not only allowed but assisted and spread. Najib the mediocre leader and obvious liar is part and parcel of that creation.

Tunku view Mahathir as 'destroying the soul of the Malays' and he has been proven right. The easy giving up on integrity, principles and respect for rules and procedures he feared would destroy his people and this country he loved so much.
